** spoiler alert ** This book was...underwhelming. I have been a Maze Runner fan almost since they were first released, and like most people, I am a HUGE fan of Newt, so I was absolutely ecstatic when I heard this book was being written. Then I read it. I wouldn't say it was a complete flop, but it just wasn't quite as exciting as I hoped it would be. We get to see Newt's journey during his time at the Crank Palace, and see his tragic slow descent into the madness that is the flare, which is heartbreaking, and in the epilogue, we actually get to see Newt's DEATH from his point of view, which almost made his death worse if that's even possible. But if I was a casual fan or didn't care about the character so much, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much. Needless to say, I did read it in an afternoon, so it's a quick read and won't take too much out of your time to read through it and see for yourself.
Short chapters, easy to read and I loved it!!
