I enjoyed this book though I would have enjoyed it a whole lot more if the narrator had been better. (In comparison to the book I'm listening to now though, this narrator was amazing.) Just when I thought I had read about nearly every angle by which the American Civil War can be studied, I stumble upon another aka the naval front. I knew about the blockade but not the intricacies that went into planning, executing and attempting to break through the blockade. I knew even less about the other naval battles in the war.
I have to admit that there are portions of the book to which I didn't not pay close enough attention and remember little. However, I caught enough of it to be sure that McPherson penned a pretty good narrative that stuck to his chosen topic, a more difficult feat than one would think.
I definitely recommend this book, just not the audiobook.
