Fresh off reading “Angel”, the latest book in James Patterson’s bird-kid saga, I debated giving his Daniel X a whirl. From what i hear, it’s the same sort of feel so I thought I might enjoy it. Coincidentally, I found the graphic novel for a discount at a store-closing sale. Works for me, I could see what I think, plus have the fun of a graphic novel.

The story did not disappoint. I really like the world created in the Daniel X story. It’s kind of like “Men in Black” – but with a young adult hero. I know my boys will enjoy that, since they love both MIB movies. I really like the orphan with superpowers element as well.

The art in this book looks great. That can truly make or break a graphic novel for me. I really like the manga feel. I grew up on comic books, but I must admit that I like the manga style drawing better. Yes, there is a difference.

The real fun of this was that as a graphic novel, I finished it quickly. That meant we could pass it around our family and talk about it within a couple of days. Everyone in my house is a fan of Patterson’s “Maximum Ride” series, so this pleased us all. “Angel” is still making the rounds.

Thanks to this graphic novel, I know I want to check out the full length novel that sparked the manga. With this book coming in two formats, you can interest all readers in your house.
