I am already a loyal fan to the 1995 bbc series and was thrilled to discover that it's probably the best book to screen adaptation ever. Listening to this audiobook was like playing the show without looking at the screen, i had a blast!!

Stolz und Vorurteil

After having seen the 2005 film (the best one of them all), I had to pick up the book and it did not disappoint. I'm now an avid collector of Pride and Prejudice and I think that says enough about how much I love this story. Truly a timeless classic.

Elizabeth Bennett has a keen mind, a sharp wit, and no desire to marry for convenience. When she meets Mr Darcy, her first impressions are far from favourable, and he shows little interest in her. Nor do their opinions improve with further acquaintance. There seems to be little hope of romance; indeed, it might be impossible unless they can confront the flaws in their own natures. Well… this put me into a massive reading slump. Wanted to dnf but I felt like one has to read it at some point in life. And dont get me wrong, I wouldnt call it bad writing, just reeeally slow with alot of side info and description etc. It just wasnt for me.

Obwohl ich 377 Seiten auf meine ersehnten Aussichten auf ein Happy Ende warten musste, war das Buch eine wirkliche Bereicherung für mein Regal. 

Die zahlreichen Charaktere sind so lebhaft beschrieben, dass man das Gefühl hat selbst Teil einer der vielen Gesellschaften zu sein. Dabei sind sowohl liebenswürdige als auch weniger sympathische Personen dabei, welche die Nähe zur Realität der Geschichte gut abbilden. 

Die altertümliche Sprache hat teilweise kleinere Auswirkungen auf den Lesefluss, aber im Gesamten mochte ich das Buch und seine Geschichte sehr gerne.

Romance books aren't my thing, but I give Jane Austen a chance to peek at the beauty of her writings. The premise of the story in itself is simple, clothed with the lives of everyday people in European settings. I enjoy reading the dialogues in this story albeit sometimes it's too intricate for simple messages to be conveyed. There isn't much romance like your usual romance books the romance is slowly build through character interactions and it's interesting to read. Austen's words are indeed beautiful. There is no regret in reading it, it was a pleasurable read and not too difficult of a classic. Whether or not I'd read another of Austen's works are still questionable.

this book was everything. having seen the movie first, I was so excited to read the book and honestly it didn’t disappoint me at all. elizabeth and darcy were the realest characters and I loved how their flaws were shown rather than portraying them as perfect. 
honestly I feel like elizabeth and darcy invented the “enemies to lovers” trope, they’re literally the original couple!!!

It will probably feel very right if you’re a fan of English literature.

I mean, five stars, duh. If you know me, you know I love this book. I could talk about it for hours, and I'm not being hyperbolic. As I write this review, it's probably my fourth read. 

What I love paying attention to every time I read this is how Austen uses explicitly sentimental linguistic tropes, especially the language of the heart. Such frequent use of romantic language suggests that Austen's heroines are sentimental, individualist loose cannons. But as a whole, the language of the heart is only internal; Austen's (via Lizzy) proto-feminist societal critique is overwhelmingly private, lacking the societal momentum to be externalized without ruining our protagonist's happiness. 

Pride and Prejudice is Austen at her best, masterfully using romantic tropes (and so! much! humor!) as a burlesque to subvert sentimentalism and underline that a woman's coming of age, despite her private critique, necessitates a public subjugation.

The novel is set in rural England in the early 19th century. Mrs. Bennet attempts to persuade Mr. Bennet to visit Mr. Bingley, a rich bachelor recently arrived in the neighbourhood. After some verbal sparring with her husband, Mrs. Bennet believes he will not call on Mr. Bingley. Shortly afterwards, he visits Netherfield, Mr. Bingley's rented residence, much to Mrs. Bennet's delight. The visit is followed by an invitation to a ball at the local assembly rooms that the entire neighbourhood will attend.At the ball, we are first introduced to the whole Netherfield party, which consists of Mr. Bingley, his two sisters, the husband of one of his sisters, and Mr. Darcy, his dearest friend. Mr. Bingley's friendly and cheerful manner earns him popularity among the guests. He appears attracted to Jane Bennet (the Bennets' eldest daughter), with whom he dances twice. Mr. Darcy, reputed to be twice as wealthy, is haughty and aloof, causing a decided dislike of him. He declines to dance with Elizabeth (the Bennets' second-eldest daughter), stating that she is not attractive enough to tempt him. Elizabeth finds this amusing and jokes about it with her friends.Mr. Bingley's sisters, Caroline and Louisa, later invite Jane to Netherfield for dinner. On her way there, Jane is caught in a rain shower and develops a bad cold, forcing her to stay at Netherfield to recuperate, much to Mrs. Bennet's delight. When Elizabeth goes to see Jane, Mr. Darcy finds himself getting attracted to Elizabeth (stating she has "fine eyes"), while Miss Bingley grows jealous, as she herself has designs on Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth herself is indifferent and unaware of his developing interest in her.

Really nice revisiting this story after watching the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. 

Kate Beckinsale's narration was really enjoyable. Someone on iTunes left a review annoyed by the voices she fave to the characters, and I guess you could be, but I rather liked it.

I'm pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book. It really deserves the title of a classic, even 200+ years later the humour is still funny, the characters still relatable and lovable and plot still engaging.

Pride and prejudice is unlike any other classic literature book I have read before. Elizabeth Bennet is not your typical damsel in distress but isn't also a "not like other girls" mary sue type character either. I really enjoyed her growth throughout and the development of her relationship with Mr Darcy was honestly so wholesome and sweet. 

I'm glad I gave into my random urge to read this book, everyone should give reading it a chance.

Okay I got to admit: I hate almost all the characters and I hate what they did. 
BUT the book is good. I may hate the story but I got to admit the book is well-written and I kind of enjoy diving more into the characters’ complexity and details. I enjoy analyzing their actions and the consequences of it. 
It really is a good book to analyze and explore! 
I just wish I could have like the story just as much as others do but I can’t bring myself to enjoy it.
Anyway I think everyone needs to make their own opinions about the book and I hope the next readers will enjoy diving into the world of Pride & Prejudice!

Jane Austen wasn't taught at my high school and I didn't take any English lit classes in college. I was in my mid twenties and the Jane Austen phenomena was gaining momentum. Since then I've been trying and failing to read any Austen book start to finish. That is until this year when I discovered the perfect way to read her books: audio in the car.

Pride and Prejudice is now the best known and most popular of Austen's books. When I was a teen, it was Sense and Sensibility (thanks to Clueless). P&P's current popularity is due in large part to the film adaptation Collin Firth was in.

The Bennett family is in a bit of a pickle. Mr. Bennett's financial affairs (and the house) are in the red. If he dies, the house goes to his creditor and Mrs. Bennett and their five daughters are out on the street. The only thing to do — marry off the daughters.

Jane is the oldest and most beautiful. Tradition states she should be married first to pave the way for her sisters. But there's a snag in the form of Mr. Darcy who makes an ass of himself at the first dance and thoroughly pisses of the second daughter, Elizabeth. She pegs him for being prideful but is blind to her own prejudice.

Like a modern day soap opera, the novel contrives to put Darcy and Elizabeth together in as many frustrating and embarrassing ways as possible. Eventually though the reasons behind Darcy's behavior comes out and Elizabeth softens.

Listening to the audio gave me a better appreciation for the novel. I can see why it's popular. I had a few problems with the production of the audio. The woman reading the book gave Mrs. Bennett a harpy voice. It literally set my teeth on edge.

Pride and Prejudice, which opens with one of the most famous sentences in English Literature, is an ironic novel of manners. In it the garrulous and empty-headed Mrs Bennet has only one aim - that of finding a good match for each of her five daughters. In this she is mocked by her cynical and indolent husband. With its wit, its social precision and, above all, its irresistible heroine, Pride and Prejudice has proved one of the most enduringly popular novels in the English language.

It is not a faithful adaptation, but a retelling in comic that gives it a humorous spin and will make you yearn to read the book or watch your favorite adaptation.
I really loved the art, I didn't expect them to be so manga-like, but it delivered.
The writing did felt weak at times, but I was enthralled enough to ignore it.

Really recommend it for all of those Austen fans that can get enough of the Jane Austen classic.
