Gosh this was a ride. This guys went through a lot and thankfully came out the together at the end. I just love these guys so much. Such a sweet ending.

As my friends know, I've been suffering from The Fussy Book Crankies for a while now. Shattered Glass started to bring me out of it. But this book? This book may catapult me into another downward spiral. Because it was So. Damn. Good. And now I'm going to have to find another book that's just as good if not better to follow directly on the heels of this? That's a tall order.

I don't like romantic suspense. At least I thought I didn't. I'm thinking I need qualify that statement to read: I don't like heterosexual romantic suspense. Zero at the Bone had assassins, FBI, Witness Protection, Latin mafia, a trial, several attempts on our heroes lives...you get the idea. And yet the story didn't feel like one continual car chase with bullets flying. It truly is a romance about one broken man struggling to come to terms with who he is and who he wants to be for the one person in the world who can make him whole again.

I loved that the blackmail story actually wrapped up relatively early and we got to see so much of the aftermath. Life doesn't suddenly become less interesting after a major conflict is resolved. I think it becomes more interesting because now you have a new view of the world that needs to be assimilated. And we got to see all that!

I know some people didn't like D's speech patter, but it didn't bother me at all. Maybe I've just read a lot of cowboy/western romances, but I could hear a soft, growly Southern drawl in my head and I think it fit perfectly.

Ok, I know I'm rambling. I stayed up until 3am reading this (and slept right through my 6am boot camp - darn, I almost feel bad about that) and I'm only half way through my first coffee of the day. All I can do is gush about how much I loved this book.
