Feminist Philosophies Problems, Theories, and Applications
This new, updated and revised, edition is still the only one of its kind to combine an extensive discussion of the major problems confronting women with an in-depth analysis of the alternative theoretical and practical means for resolving these problems. Part I contains readings on the problems of sex-role socialization, sexuality and violence, reproduction, self-images, the world of work, the domestic scene, and cultural invisibility. It has been updated throughout, with new readings on such topics as date rape, sexual harassment, and the new reproductive technologies. Part II then presents six theoretical frameworks for dealing with these problems: liberal feminism (revised to be more relevant to student concerns), radical feminism, cultural feminism (new), Marxist/socialist feminism (revised to be more accessible), postmodern feminism, and ecological feminism (new). It also presents a section on race/ethnicity critiques of feminism (designed to move us toward multi-cultural feminism) and a new section on men's responses to feminism (designed to move us toward gender-inclusive feminism).
