Dirty Thirty

When on her way to retrieve one of her bonds, Duncan Dugan, Stephanie Plum discovers him trying to kill himself by jumping off the fourth floor of a building.  He survives, but escapes from the hospital.  At the same time, Stephanie is hired by a local jeweler, Martin Plover, to find the man who robbed his store, Andy Manley, better known as Nutsy.  It isn't long before Stephanie realizes that Duncan Dugan and Nutsy are connected and are both on the run.  What's worse is Stephanie is babysitting Bob while Morelli is out of town, and Lulu is now living with Stephanie because her house was firebombed, making her job just that much tougher.  

Dirty Thirty is filled with laugh out loud moments and an interesting mystery the moves the story along at a brisk pace.  The usual characters inhabit this volume in the Stephanie Plum series with the added element of Bob's constant presence and Stephanie's hilarious conversations with him.  Another nice touch added to this book is the donuts stacked at the beginning of each chapter and what happens to that stack as the story continues.  Also, an underlying thread of Stephanie's frustration with her life leads to a pretty dramatic conclusion featuring both Ranger and Morelli.  Overall, Dirty Thirty ramps up the humor as well as the drama, making this one of the best Stephanie Plum novels to date.
