Sadly I didn't like it. I initially picked this up in the thrift store because the Princess's name has my name 😆 which is not very common in books and because it's described as epic fantasy stand-alone.

Captain Mykkael was the only character who was slightly interesting beside Joussud. The plot was slow and boring and I saw the twists from a mile away. It took over 250 pages to get kind of started and the rest is filled with descriptions of tables, houses and furniture and how much everyone loves the princess, and how nobody knows anything. The language and writing style is very historical and long winded. We're not really getting anyone's thoughts so much as the actions they're doing. I also felt that the author didn't leave enough "breadcrumbs" at the beginning for me to get invested into the mystery/solving of why the princess fled.
The end is unsatisfactory in my opinion. 

*SPOILER ALERT*And what was up with the princess anyway? Falling in love with two people, wanting to marry them and then immediately being married to a third and she's just "ah well"?!
