To be honest, I don't know how I got through this book. I loved the premise of this book, with childhood sweethearts, but the constant, and lengthy, flashbacks, just as the book was getting going, really ruined things for me. What also ruined things were the constant sex scenes. I love steam at the best of time, but in this book it was constant. It got to the point where I would skim over them. I don't think they added to the story, in fact, they got in the way of it.
This book had so much promise but ultimately didn't work for me, sorry.

           Hear me out, I love romance novels. I go through spurts of reading a couple within a month's time, and then I'm done for a while. They are easy, entertaining reads.
"5 Years Later" however, was not a good book. The writing was decent, which is the only thing that kept me reading. 
Lily and Aiden were so incredibly frustrating to read about. The love story was not convincing at all. I'm not sure if it was because the authors wrote about the "backstory" so late into the novel, but coming in and just being told that these two characters believe they are meant for each other, yet do everything in their power to mess each other up, was frustrating. I didn't buy the history. Lily is a weak-willed, powerless woman against Aiden, who doesn't have anything going for him and hurts her every time they reconnect. 
Another thing was the storylines within the novel were literally the same exact scenarios, only 5 years apart. Aiden drops in on Lily's birthday, they go back to an apartment to "talk" over some beers, ravage each other for weeks, Lily drops all responsibilities, something happens to make Aiden lose his cool, the cops show up and take Aiden away, leaving Lily to pick up the pieces. Rinse, repeat. 
I get that the authors were trying to show the trials and tribulations of a hard-knock life, especially when the drug addiction plot came into play. I can get behind the message of the story, but with weak characters and a bad plotline, I did not enjoy this. Like I previously stated, the writing was not bad, so I might give another book a try.
