Jedi Academy

"My whole life I planned on going to pilot school like the rest of my friends--then I got rejected! Along came a little green guy named Yoda who invited me to Jedi Academy. Now I'm at a school with aliens, robots, and lightsaber-wielding bullies who can lift things with their minds! How am I supposed to compete with that? As if starting middle school wasn't hard enough..." The story of Roan Novachez, Jedi Academy student, is told through comics, journal entries, letters, doodles, and newspaper clippings. This incredible, original story from author/illustrator Jeffrey Brown captures all of the humor, awkwardness, fun, and frustrations of middle school ... in a galaxy far, far away.

Star Wars: Jedi Academy is the first book in the Jedi Academy series. The main character, Roan, wants to go to flight school like his father and brother, but when his application is rejected, he fears that his life will be spent working with plants. However, an unexpected note comes, telling Roan that he has been accepted to the Jedi Academy. Roan decides that it is better than agricultural school and packs his bags. His arrival though, shows him that it is going to be just as difficult for him to fit in here as it was at home in his old school.

Star Wars: Jedi Academy is a fun book interspersed with mixed media and graphic novel elements. Even though this is fantasy, it is easy to identify with Roan and cheer for him as he experiences growing pains just like any other young person. Overall, Star Wars: Jedi Academy is an entertaining graphic novel with lots of life lessons thrown in for good measure.
