In 1572, Tupac Amaru, the last emperor of the Inca empire, was captured by Spanish conquistadors and burned at the stake in front of the Inca Temple of the Sun in the main plaza of Cuzco. As the smoke billowed around him and the flames devoured his flesh, he swore to return and take his revenge on the Spanish. More than four hundred years later, archeology professor Teresa Pizarro discovers a scrap of paper that holds a clue to the location of Tupac Amaru's lost tomb.
