Heart's Blood

Heart's Blood The Twelve Kingdoms Book 4

Jeffe Kennedy2016
The classic Goose Girl fairy tale retold in the world of The Twelve Kingdoms as an adult fantasy romance. A dark fairy tale retelling of a princess robbed of rank, husband and even her name. Nix is nothing. The Princess Natilde--her former waiting woman--attacked her on the journey to wed Prince Cavan, stripping her of everything and taking her place. With no serving skills, Nix becomes a goose girl. Perhaps if Nix keeps her promise never to reveal who she really is, Natilde won't carry out her vile threats. Prince Cavan entered his arranged marriage determined to have a congenial, if not loving relationship with his future queen--for the sake of both their kingdoms. But, his wife repels him more each day and he finds himself absurdly drawn to the lovely Nix. With broken vows, anguish and dark secrets between them, Cavan and Nix struggle to find the magic to restore what's gone terribly wrong... if it ever can be.

My Review:

What an incredible story this turned out to be. I think this is also the first time that I have ever read a Goose Girl retelling and it was beautiful in every single way. If you are a fan of the fairy tale, then I highly recommend that you pick up this book because Jeffe Kennedy did this retelling to perfection. I just loved how well it was close to the original (and this retelling makes the perfect setup for a romance) I loved how it all gets resolved and even though there was so heartbreaking aspects to it, there was also some positives behind it as well.

I loved the connection that there is between Nix and Cavan. They have just a great relationship and even from the beginning Cavan could sense that something wasn't quite right and I loved that he was willing to do what is right no matter how challenging or difficult. Both Nix and Cavan have such true leadership and a sense of honor within them both. The villain of the story is truly evil, like classic Disney film type of evil. And man it was so refreshing to truly have a evil villain. The setting was so atmospheric for winter and I adored it. Just true perfection there.

Overall This book was just about everything and more in what I was looking for. If you need a good fantasy romance with a fairytale twist to it, this is one for you!
