Though I struggled to get through the entirety of this book, I have to say that was mostly due to the fact that this book was forced reading which doesn't ever truly sit well with my mind. In retrospect, the book was the easiest way I could have ever informed myself of the Supreme Court and its work. I feel more engaged with politics and I feel as if I have read a fictional story, not something that actually increased my knowledge of American life and government.

Jowanza Joseph

The book has some really high points but also some really low. Based on other Toobin books I've read this one is definitely the weakest. The research and detail are on point but the storytelling and cohesiveness are lacking. 

Fortunately, I still think it's worthwhile in understanding the mechanics of the modern court.

This book should have been boring, but it was not. Far from it. Mr. Toobin has a gift for narrative and strings together a fascinating story of interactions between the justices over the years. As a lawyer, I had particular interest in this subject, but I suspect anyone would find this book enjoyable. Those of you with a far-right political bend will probably take offense to the slightly left-of-center tone.

Loved this book! While not exactly nonpartisan, it fairly described how the court moved from a liberal nine to a conservative nine. Toobin also did a great job in the individual descriptions of each justice, giving enough information to show the personality of each without boring the reader.

Trevor Berrett

It's nice to have another intimate look at the Supreme Court and at the landmark decisions of the last 205 years. Tolbin's writing is adept and compelling and his knowledge of the court, the cases, and the justices themselves is enlightening. Most people don't realize how important these nine individuals are to our nation, for better or for worse. Hopefully this book opens some eyes.
