If Tomorrow Doesn't Come

Julia Rutgers

I watched shadows cut her face into a collage of features

"[...] Don't you want her in Heaven with you, after all of this?"

I wanted to cry for the old me, the girl who gave a shit, who believed I was so broken I couldn't add queerness to the equation. I had only been hurting myself.

There, under the pink-and-white lights of the fireworks, she felt planets away.

Was it a memory if it only lasted for a few days?

[...] as the tires hit the highway, our worlds split into two.

" [...] Oceans, rivers, they're like hope for what's beyond us. But lakes remind me there's beauty where we are."

There were times I had to pause and take it slow with this book because the feelings were too big, but wow. Gorgeous, tender, contemplative; painfully real but astoundingly hopeful. Younger me would have needed this

On the morning Avery Byrne plans to end her life, the world discovers there are only nine days left to live: an asteroid is headed for Earth, and no one can stop it.

As time runs out and secrets slowly come to light, Avery fights her way home to save the girl she has been in love with her whole life. But can Avery also learn to save herself and find hope again in the tomorrows she has left?
