           A pretty predictable romance book, but one that felt very realistic! I enjoyed learning about the horror movie industry, and it was nice to read a queer novel for once. I predicted it was Wayne since Lilah saw him that night on location, but the creepy scientist was a good red herring. I loved that this was about two Jewish girls too.

I love Natalie Naudus and wlw romances so I knew I had to request this one. But I am DNFing it at 18 percent because I just can't get into the story. It already has so many issues between the characters that would be fixed if they JUST TALKED TO EACH OTHER. There are also so many details I don't need to know about (the daily schedule of things going on set, what scenes are shot, etc).

Cute at times but never more than merely fine. While I didn't hate either of the main characters, I didn't find either particularly compelling in a way that made it hard to root for the relationship in the beginning and then frustrating when things got difficult later in the book. It was hard to tell the lead's points of view apart, even though it alternated it felt like it kept blending together as well. The genuinely unsettling and even scary parts of the book were a weird tone clash with the rest and it made the climax not entirely pay off. I liked the angle of the filmmaking world though!

I was super excited for this book but ended up getting so dissapointed. The main reason I didn't like this book was that I just couldn't get on board with the romance. Noa was just super judgemental of Lilah in the beginning of the book (calling her shallow and critiquing her interests) and we never really got to a point until like the very end where Noa is like "maybe my intial judgements weren't correct". Lilah also has a lot of trauma from her previous relationships which she very obviously hasn't worked through yet. Both of these aspects combined just kept me from ever really rooting for this relationship. They just didn't work together and the author never really did anything to convice me they do. So I just ended up being pretty bored while reading this novel. I do think there were some interesting aspects to this novel. I mean, the setting was pretty great and Lilah's storyline trying to make her way into the industry while often being seen for nothing more than her looks. It's super interesting, especially with the stalker storyline. If that was the main focus of this book I think I would have liked it a lot more.

A bit of a mixed bag for me with this slow-burner, kisses only romance about a final girl and an effects makeup artist available August 3rd.

The plot meandered a bit and the stalking plot line kept me feeling uneasy. There is a ton of detail about movie making and makeup effects. You might love that or not, but I did skim a bit. I was a little disappointed in how Noa was so disdainful of Lilah's tastes - especially in films and romance novels. Noa is a horror fan, which is the oft disdained cousin of romance. Why???? 

I did like the queer community in the story and both main characters are Jewish. An author to watch for sure.

Spoiler-y review. I don't even care.
This was- fine? The romance ass mostly cute and I enjoyed the banter between Lilah and Noa, the bisexual, queer, lesbian, trans, and Jewish rep were all done well, I think. But what the fuck was that stalker storyline, with no hints to it in the blurb or the marketing material at all. That whole storyline with the nanny-cam bear and the security guard and just- it made this into a very unenjoyable read.
