this book was an absolute delight! i love the way crusie writes her couples, and min and cal had such an electric, perfect chemistry. i love that it wasn’t insta love for either of them, since it does take a bit of mental gymnastics sometimes when romance novels have an ml and fl immediately attracted to each other even if they don’t like each other. i like that they didn’t see each other entirely that way at first, but their care for each other feels earned, and more genuine as a result. at first, i didn’t love the switching povs, but i understand why crusie chose to write the novel this way, and i guess i can’t complain bc those sections made me love roger and tony and bonnie and liza and diana so much more. as always with crusie, the banter is perfect, and i laughed a lot while reading. sped through so quickly as well! onto my next crusie novel!

My sister recommended it to me, It's so funny, she said The MC's sense of humour will kill you, she said You'll love the main hot dude, she said You'll enjoy it, she said. Life lesson : Dont trust her with your bookish soul again

Audiobook:
I have read this book sooo many times that I’ve practically memorized it, but this is the first time I’ve listened to the audio book. It’s still my absolute favorite rom com that Jennifer Crusie has done. Infinite stars forever in any version!

Words will never do justice to the love I have for this book. Jennifer Crusies story ponders what it means to fall in love. Many of the characters have their theories, and they are all completely plausible, but theories cannot completely explain Minerva Dobbs and Calvin Morrisey. As usual, the dialogue sparkles with Crusies trademark wit and all of her characters have their charms. It's a rom- com without apology. I've read it more than ten times at least and it still sparkles and shines. Truly entertaining and oh so satisfying. Infinite stars for a rating, but I guess I have to settle for five.

funny!!! loved this book to pieces!!

Just a delightful read start to finish. Loved the leads, enjoyed all their interactions and their friendships and the side characters. Just gets the job done. Understood the assignment and executed it. No notes.

Bet Me was sort of my introduction to the chick-lit genre, so my review might be biased because of the special place it holds for me. It's also about the time I read it and how it made me laugh and feel all better. It's not like it's something out of this world. Light and cute, a bit silly but romantic. All the chicken masala and doughnuts bits were a bit weird, not gonna lie. Having a plus-size character was great, though. And even though Min does have insecurities about her body, I didn't feel like she went moping around all the time about it. Which would be fine. You do you. It's always nice to read about empowered women, no matter their body shape. The thing is, women with insecurities are also a very real thing and very valid to me, so I was okay with that. Cal was a sweetheart. I low key didn't like that the fact that he dated a lot was used as a negative feature for his character. The ending was overly-sweet, maybe a bit over the top, but at the end of it, I went along because I wasn't looking for realism while reading this. I was like to hell with it and decided to enjoy it.

So this is probably my 5th time reading this book and my thoughts stay the same. There’s something that prevents me from giving this 5 stars every time. I also think that reading it this last time actually made me want to give it about a 3 but I keep rereading it so I shall keep it at a 4!

Actual rating: 1.5 stars. Because I'm in a good mood today. Warning: the gif is strong with this one. Again. Why? Why the bloody fish did I do this to myself? Because I'm a first-class idiot, that's why. And because I'm a complete, utter, total masochist, that's also why. Yep, that's me, the human piñata. Okay, let's get this over with as quickly and painlessly as possible. This book made me feel like: And also like: And also, also like: All in all this proved to be a charmingly delightful reading experience. And I have to say it put me in a deliciously jovial, cheery mood. Good times and stuff. » And the moral of this Next Time Anyone Sees Me Reading a Book Similar to this One Please Do Me a Favor and Shoot Me in the Head Thank Thee Kindly Super Extra Crappy Non Review Thingie (NTASMRaBSttOPDMaFaSMitHTTKSECNRT™) is: ah, sugar-shock inducing books, there really is nothing quite like them. Who would want to read gloriously dark stuff packed with liars and assholes when such enchanting tales as this one exist? I sure wouldn't. Oh no, not me. P.S. One day chicken Marsala will save the world. It will eradicate all diseases, make hunger disappear, stop armed conflicts and bring peace on earth. Trust me on that one, I read this book, I know what I'm talking about.

No matter how many times I read this book it never gets old. I always love Cal and his charming ways and I adore Min there rationalising things and wearing her fabulous shoes. And there sharp back and forth banter at the start progresses into more gentle teasing and I'm just in love. I also always finish the book with a craving for Krispy Kreme donuts but what can you do?
