Catch the Sun

A brand new YA standalone survivor romance from Jennifer Hartmann, the fan-favorite author of Still Beating, Lotus, and June First, packed with the same light-in-the-dark hope for healing in the face of tragedy. Perfect for fans of If He Had Been With Me, A Thousand Boy Kisses, and Binding 13. "Kissing you feels like catching the sun..." At seven years old, Ella Sunbury and Max Manning were inseparable--until life scattered them in different directions, forcing Ella to abruptly leave town. A decade later, she returns for their senior year of high school, moving in across the street from her childhood best friend. But she's not the same girl Max once knew. She now lives in the shadow of her brother: a notorious felon on death row, convicted of a crime that shook the nation. Reeling from the fallout and shunned by her peers, all Ella wants is to fade into the background. Max has little room for distractions, juggling responsibilities for a disabled father and a distant twin brother. But Ella's return reignites something within him. He wants to be close to her again, to understand her...and to turn their friendship into more. But as their relationship blossoms, new tragedy strikes, and darkness threatens to tip their delicate balance. In order to find the light, they'll have to navigate the shadows. And to catch the sun...they must first endure the flames.

This is the first book to make me ball this year. Omg! This was beautifully written I must say! The character growth was amazing and so beautiful to read. The plot and suspense was thoughtfully spaced out that it wasn’t predictable at all. I never expected this book to make me this emotional but I loved every bit of it!

Yeah, I knew this was sad but didn’t know it was going to be because of tragic thing after tragic thing happening, making everyone wonder when it would finally end. I can relate with that because when tragedy happens it usually feels like a domino effect follows making you question a lot of things. This FMC is way stronger than me because of what she went through. I commend her and honestly was happy to see her get everything she deserves at the end of the book. Because her journey to get there was challenging to say the least. Now as a young adult book this isn’t fora lot of people. There is spice in the book but there are such graphic events that he opened too. It’s definitely not for everyone and is important that you look at the content warnings before reading.

“I mean what I said, honey. Romanticize your life. Don’t live every day like it’s your last. Live every day like it’s your first. Lasts are tragic. Firsts are exciting and full of celebration. Look at every sunrise like it’s the first time you’ve ever seen colors like that before. Listen to your favorite song like you’ve never heard such a precious melody. If you make every day a celebration, you’ll never get bored in your own story.”
