           First of all, we can talk about the positive points, which are very numerous. The universe, for example, that we discover was a very good point and that I really loved to discover throughout my reading. Everything is extremely well described, well written, and I really managed to transport myself into Poppy's world. We talk about beliefs, hierarchy, history of the kingdom, everything I love in a good fantasy book! Everything starts from the world of the book. 

So we follow Poppy, the so-called "Maid" of the kingdom. This young lady is obliged to be perfect, veiled, virgin, and of good character in all circumstances not to disappoint the gods at the risk of being ferociously beaten. However, Poppy only wants one thing: to live through this quest for identity that she follows and to discover the world around her. I extremely liked her character and her warrior and rebel appeal. 

Speaking of characters, we can say hello to Vickter who touched me extremely. He is for Poppy, a real emotional support and sometimes takes the place of her father, whom she once lost. His death was the only moment in the novel where tears flowed painfully... I also like Tawyn very much, her lady-in-waiting in a way, but who nevertheless seemed rather distant to me. That is to say that this character is present for our main character but that partially, we do not know if she cares about her for work or personally and Poppy even comes to wonder. The fact that we don't have a goodbye scene at the end only widened my doubts about the strength of their relationship. I hope to see her again in the next few volumes as she is a character that was interesting to explore! 

The great. The famous. The sublime Hawke... Arrogant, protective, funny, admirable, etc... He has everything to please his new protégée. This one falls under the charm as of their first meeting, rather atypical besides for a Pucelle, we can say it to us... I admit to associate his character with the great Rhysand of ACOTAR. I loved his character, a little contemptuous, but his repartee makes the whole thing extremely funny and you want to see only him throughout the novel. He is also extremely present from the second half of the book so we never get bored! I also really appreciated the way he ends up confiding and sharing his anxieties, dreams, and even his past to Poppy while his first goal is indeed to manipulate her (I come to that later). The relationship they have, although at first only professional, becomes magical: love is powerful and untouchable despite the prohibitions of both characters. 


I come to the slightly more unfortunate point... The plot twist. Although it was extremely well brought about since everything was calculated from the beginning, it all turned out to be highly predictable from the first appearances of Hawke. I would have liked to have been surprised. The fact that Hawke is actually the Dark King, the enemy of Poppy's kingdom for generations, is very bold but again predictable. I play the complicated girl, I know, but I have to address another rather negative point, I don't know if you also felt a little disappointment for the end... Indeed, when she learns the real identity of the one she's in love with, I was expecting a heartbreaking moment that would have made me drop my little tear but this desire was quickly unfulfilled when she sleeps with him even though she knows his real identity. One minute she forgives him, the next she can't stay in the same room with him. Poppy was very much a believer, despite the story Casteel (Hawke) tells her at the end showing that he was not the real villain, Poppy could have died for her people, certainly out of obligation but an obligation for which she would have put aside her pride. In fact, she didn't hesitate for a second to pull out her weapons and fight for her people against a sudden ravenous attack. She believes him directly and shows herself to be naive, even if what he says is true she could have believed the opposite because everything about him is a lie from the beginning. 

The end of the tome makes me extremely eager to read the sequel! I already have little ideas of how it could unfold and I can't wait to check them out during my next reading!

Avis - le Sang et la Cendre (Tome1) ⚠️SPOILERS

Tout d’abord, nous pouvons aborder les points positifs, qui se trouvent être très nombreux. L’univers, par exemple, que nous découvrons qui a été un très bon point et que j’ai vraiment adoré découvrir tout au long de ma lecture. Tout est extrêmement bien décrit, bien écrit, et j’ai vraiment réussit à me transporter dans le monde de Poppy. Nous parlons de croyances, de hiérarchie, d’histoire du royaume, tout ce que j’aime dans un bon livre de Fantasy! Tout part du monde du livre. 

Nous suivons donc Poppy, la prénommée « Pucelle » du royaume. Cette demoiselle a pour obligation d’être irréprochable, voilée, vierge, parfaite et de bonne figure en toute circonstance pour ne pas décevoir les dieux au risque d’être battue férocement. Cependant, Poppy ne veut qu’une seule chose: vivre à travers cette quête d’identité qu’elle suit et découvrir le monde qui l’entoure. J’ai extrêmement aimé son personnage et ses attraits guerriers et rebels. 

En parlant de personnages, nous pouvons faire un petit coucou à Vickter qui m’a extrêmement touché. Il est pour Poppy, un véritable soutient émotionnel et prend parfois la place de son père, qu’elle a autrefois perdu. Sa mort a été le seul moment du roman où les larmes ont douloureusement coulées… J’aime également beaucoup Tawyn, sa dame de compagnie en quelque sorte, mais qui malgré tout m’a parut assez lointaine. C’est à dire que ce personnage est présent pour notre personnage principal mais que partiellement, nous ne savons si elle tient à elle pour le travail ou personnellement et Poppy en vient même à se poser la question. Le fait que nous n’ayons pas de scène d’adieu à la fin n’a fait qu’élargir mes doutes sur la force de leur relation. J’espère la revoir dans les prochains tomes car c’est un personnage qu’il s’était intéressant d’exploiter! 

La grand. Le fameux. Le sublime Hawke… Arrogant, protecteur, drôle, admirable, ect… Il a tout pour plaire à sa nouvelle protégée. Celle-ci tombe sous le charme dès leur première rencontre, assez atypique d’ailleurs pour une Pucelle, nous pouvons nous le dire… J’avoue associer son personnage au grand Rhysand d’ACOTAR. J’ai adoré son caractère un peu méprisant mais sa repartie rend le tout extrêmement drôle et l’on a envie de ne voir que lui au fil du roman. Il est d’ailleurs extrêmement présent à partir de la deuxième moitié du livre donc nous ne nous ennuyons jamais!! J’ai beaucoup apprécié également la manière dont il finit par se confier et à partager ses angoisses, rêves, et même son passé à Poppy alors que son but premier est effectivement de la manipuler (J’y viens ensuite). La relation qu’ils entretiennent, bien qu’elles soit d’un premier temps uniquement professionnelle, devient magique : l’amour est puissant et intouchable malgré les interdits des deux personnages. 


J’en viens au point un peu plus fâcheux… Le plot twist. Bien qu’il ait été extrêmement bien amené vu que tout était calculé depuis le début, tout cela s’est révélé être fortement prévisible dès les premières apparitions de Hawke. J’aurais voulu qu’on me surprenne. Le fait que Hawke soit enfaite le Roi des Ténèbres, l’ennemi du royaume de Poppy depuis des générations, est très audacieux mais encore une fois prévisible. Je joue la fille compliquée, je sais, mais je dois aborder un autre point assez négatif, je ne sais pas si vous aussi avez ressentit une petite déception pour la fin… En effet, lorsqu’elle a appris la réelle identité de celui dont elle est amoureuse, j’attendais un moment déchirant qui m’aurait fait lâcher ma petite larme mais cette envie a vite été insatisfaite lorsqu’elle couche avec lui même si elle connaît sa vraie identité. Un coup elle lui pardonne, un coup elle ne peut plus rester dans la même pièce que lui. Poppy était très à cheval sur les croyances, malgré le récit que lui conte Casteel (Hawke) à la fin montrant qu’il n’était pas le vrai méchant, Poppy aurait pu mourir pour les siens, certes par obligation mais une obligation pour laquelle elle aurait mit de côté sa fierté. Elle n’a d’ailleurs pas hésité une seule seconde pour sortir les armes et se battre pour les siens contre une soudaine attaque de vorace. Elle le croit directement et se montre naïve, même si ce qu’il dit est vrai elle aurait pu croire le contraire car tout de lui n’est que mensonge depuis le début. 

La fin du tome me donne extrêmement envie de lire la suite! J’ai déjà des petites idées de comment elle pourrait se dérouler et j’ai hâte de les vérifier durant ma prochaine lecture!
