While I loved this book for what it was, there were two really big things that annoyed me.

1. Dee was not there. At all. In book 1, Dee had been a HUGE influence and I loved that not only was it a great friendship for YA, but also, both friends were 'in the loop' (ever notice how every YA book every main character ends ups spending the entire series lying to their best friend until she fades away into non-existence?) Half of the time Dee was mentioned in this book, it was the idea of Dee rather than the character of Dee on the page and it just really annoyed me how NOT THERE she was.

2. Daemon and the word "want". Daemon said "want" a LOT in this book. As in, he kept on telling Katy he "wanted" her, and it all felt kind of sketchy to me. But I really did like the way Katy handled how Daemon addressed her--she always seemed really clear on whether they were discussing being attracted to each other or having actual feelings for each other. But it irks me that Daemon never actually professed to having feelings for Katy deeper than attraction over the course of this book.

All in all though, as I said, I enjoyed this book for what it was, and this book was meant to be fluff with overt sexual undertones and it did a great job at that and keeping me entertained, so thumbs up.

yes, this series is absolutely sooooo very “episode”, so very cliche, but sooooo very addicting. TWO YEARS LATER and I still cannot stop thinking about this book. it is about a non-human (technically, made of light) species. One of them, the main character, falls in love with a human, the main female character. it is about their relationship, their world vs earth, and… I won’t ruin the rest. But my obsession with these characters is otherworldly. The covers are awful hence why I listened to the audio books but the books are chef kiss to say the least.

I LOVE this freaking series. I love Armentrout and all of her books. She knows how to freaking write! The second book is the Lux series was pretty good. I liked Obsidian a lot more, but Onyx did so much for the plot in this series. Daemon Black is soooooooo hot. I love every appearance he has in this book. There were a few ANNOYING parts of this book. Not annoying because they sucked, because again this series is freaking amazing. But annoying because it was infuriating to watch Katy make so many mistakes, and then watch it all burn to shit at the end. However, one really annoying aspect to this was how it was ALL put on Katy at the end. Daemon sat there and encouraged her to keep things from Dee, which is her bestfriend, but also his sister. That was a tricky ass situation. Yeah, Katy could have made better decisions, but lets not pretend they were all hers to make. Daemon played a huge ass role in these mistakes (aside from Blake)! Every interaction between Blake and Daemon literally had me in tears, Daemon is so funny! But lets not pretend that his hesitancy towards Blake was because he didn't trust him. That had everything to do with jealousy. Surprisingly, I don't hate Blake. I agree with Katy, Blake did what he had do, and had he been the protagonist, we would have probably been cheering for him to save his friend. Katy and Daemon were more than a little infuriating. I feel like most of the tension was written only for the angst, but I eat that shit up so it's okay. I'm glad they finally stopped being douches and admitted liking one another. 

The one thing I loved about this series was its attention to the relationships between all the females in the book. However, in Onyx, Dee and Katy's relationship was thrown out the damn window, which I hated. Like, I understand hiding things from your best friend is hard, and Katy had to learn to control her new abilities, but she completely destroyed her relationship with Dee. However, I feel Dee had also done the same when she started becoming up Adam's ass. But again, the majority of the blame was placed on Katy, which really, really annoyed me. Daemon, Dee, Ash, and all the other aliens grew up that way, grew up with the knowledge of what they are, what they can do. Katy just learned aliens existed, and then on TOP of that, learned that she is now connected to one and MUTATED. I feel like this entire book, characters were constantly getting irritated/angry with her and her mistakes, my girl NEEDS A MINUTE.

I absolutely love this series, despite its minor annoyances (which is really just because I love Katy). Again, I am reminded why I am obsessed with this series! I literally read this in a day!

I've never finished almost 500 pages [romanian version] in 2 days. I simply couldn't let it down. Of course the sleeping hours were delayed :))) but I don't regret a second. I'm going to love this entire series.

4/5⭐️. Onyx picks up right where Obsidian left off. I definitely enjoyed this second installment. The angst and sexual tension continues between Katy & Daemon. I like Katy’s development and how she is flawed. Daemon has that devilish/jerk side, but I like that we are peeling back his layers to see the real Daemon underneath.

In book 2, Katy and Daemon are now linked through his alien powers. She has decided to try and resist him, but its hard. Now the Defense Department is in town and they know about him. To complicate matters, there is a new kid at school that appears to be keeping some kind of a secret. Can anyone be trusted?

Daemon. How? How can someone be as perfect as Daemon? I'm serious, I have never met (only read about) anyone, who's so perfect. Funny, sarcastic, handsome, caring, understanding, and every possible thing, you can imagine, is in him.

Okay, okay, 
  what the heck
? This series is something new and thrilling every chapter, honestly, and it’s so addictive. I need to read more. I need more Daemon and Katy. I need more Daemon, basically.

There was a lot of betrayal in this book and I actually suspected most of it but it still took me by surprise when it happened because damn, Armentrout, you have me on edge! What’s going to happen? Blake? Will? DB? WHATTHEHECK?

One thing I was for sure of for majority of this book… Katy freaking annoyed me. She just frustrated me every chapter and I wanted to wring her neck! Daemon was stepping forward and she was being a bit of a… what’s the word… snob? I have another word in mind but I honestly love Katy despite how frustrated she made me the first half, and I’m glad she finally came to her senses near the end. ABOUT DAMN TIME!

I’m going to start Opal tomorrow after a good rest and hopefully recover from that helluva twist!

I hated Kat the whole time. She was so annoying and bad things happened because she did whatever the hell she wanted. Although, I'm not on Daemon's side, it pissed me off the fact that Kat was like "yes, I do the things that I want bc I'm me and I don't care"

I rated Obsidian with 5 stars, and I regret about it. What the hell was I thinking??? Daemon is annoying too and he believes he's right 99.9% of the time, and the 0.01% he's mad trying to prove Kat she's wrong too.

I don't actually understand why authors try to makes us believe that usually the guy is right and the girl no, and that drives me really insane. :/

Kudos to Jennifer L. Armentrout dedicating Onyx to book lovers and book bloggers. I love reading authors dedications and acknowledgements. Jennifer thanked book lovers and bloggers. She also gives thanks to Liz Pelletier, the editor behind the Lux series. Thanking her, because she is the one who demanded that Jennifer put more Daemon into Onyx. Thank you. Thank You. Thank you to Liz for demanding more Daemon in Onyx. 

I loved Obsidian, but Jennifer L. Armentrout out did her self with Onyx. Onyx has distrust, betrayal, sadness, happiness, edge of your seat action, jealousy, a lot of surprises, and it is more steamy.

Things between Daemon and Katy are a bit different. She has strong feelings for Daemon as he does for her. But she does not know if his feelings for her are real, because of the way he treated her badly when they first met and then he saved her in Obsidian and now she does not know if it is the connection between them that he is feeling or is it his true feelings. Now there is a new kid, Blake in school and is paying attention to Katy. She wants to put all the alien mojo behind her as much as she can and wants to be normal and date a normal guy. But things are not what they all seemed to be.

Daemon is still just Daemon. I loved how he finds out all Katy wants is to be wooed liked a normal girl. He definitely woos her and of course he loves a challenge. He makes it his mission to show her his feelings for her are real and not because of the connection they have now. You definetly see a jealous and over protective side of him when Blake starts paying attention to Katy.

There are tons of fun, cute and steamy scenes that are highlighted worthy. Daemon does and I mean does make it his mission to woo Katy. Loved how he brought her a rose too school...*Sigh*. Of course loving the Reindeer Sock and book video scene. All the scenes with Blake are definitely fun. Daemon is still the smartass and even funnier when jealous. Oh boy Daemon knows how to kick ass when any harm is done to Katy. Loved how he would never call him Blake, every other name that starts with a *B* but not Blake. In Obsidian I loved how he was always poking Katy in the back with his pen in class, yeah still got some of those adorable scenes. 

I was missing Dee and her friendship with Katy. I love Dee’s character but she is not in as much as in Obsidian. 

Enjoyed how Onyx is showing more and more on The DOD and Arums. They are creepier and just evil. 

Towards the end is intense and a nail biter. Things happen that I was not sure if ever can be fixed. At one point I was afraid to turn my kindle. I was not sure if it was going to end a cliffhanger, but to my surprise the story kept going and got to see a different side of Daemon. Daemon is still swoon worthy and more in Onyx. 

I love good cliffhangers but did not get it in Onyx and I was fine with that because Jennifer L. Armentrout has a way of ending her novels that you still want more now. Kudos to Jennifer for not making us wait a year for Opal (Lux #3). Still have to wait till December but hey I will take that than like some authors who can take up to a year before the next in a series is released. I look forward to see where Jennifer takes us in Opal. The Lux series is a keeper for me as one day would love to read it from the beginning and back to back. 

If you have not read Shadow yet it is a must to really get a better feel on Onyx. There are things that happen in Onyx that will be so much better if read Shadow before it. In my opinion I would read Obsidian, Shadows then Onyx. Save a day of just reading when read Onyx. It is hard to put down and you will forget everything and everyone.

I have to warn you guys that Onyx is just dripping with sexual tension. The whole book is basically just hot hot hotness between Daemon and Katy. Considering Katy doesn't particularly like Daemon, she has to stay close since she's lit up like the friggan Eiffel Tower. Imagine Daemon being Daemon, having to be close and around Katy all the time; at school, at home, in-between those two etc. That's how this book was, hot and sexy with a tad bit of danger. Onto the danger part, the DOD are here and there slyly checking out Daemon and his family making sure nothings out of the ordinary, of course that's when they notice a human is suspiciously close to them. Then that brings us to the big mystery of what the hell happened to Dawson, Daemon's twin brother that went missing with his human love, Beth. It's a sad and emotional ride from there on. 

This brings us to Blake. The new kid. The HOT new kid. Oh yeah, Daemon does not like him at all, considering Blake is all over Katy. Not that Katy is minding ya know ;) Little did we know that Blake has almost all the answers about the Arum, DOD and how to control what's happening to Katy. I REPEAT, Daemon does not like that. Can we just jump subjects and also mention that Katy is book blogger! How cool is that, I loved that little tidbit and Armentrout even writes us scenes when she's making book review videos, and opening book boxes for hauls. SO COOL. Of course, Daemon being Daemon even makes an appearance in one of her videos. Everything in this book is pretty light and fluffy, which should've been a Number 1 warning. SO you can imagine when I say that I didn't expect it to get as serious as it did! 

Something happens that is just a slap to the face, and makes you want to cry and scream out in frustrating!! I was so angry that I just wanted to get in there and kill everyone myself. UGH. This series really does pull you in and make you want more and more. Go read it, then come back and we can talk about a murder plan.

It was a little slow in the beginning just because I was so frustrated with Kat but then OMG this book went so fast! I don't think there was as much action as the first one but so much information and that ending blew my mind! So pumped about this series!

jan 23, 2022- this was my third time reading this and I still love it lol. i was 15 the first time reading this, so there’s definitely a feeling of nostalgia - katy’s home is definitely on my list of fictional comfort places. I’ll always love daemon & katy, and just the fact that katy is a book blogger and the amount of times books are described to be lying around lmaoo (also *SPOILER* that one scene where daemon does a book vlog with katy and it’s one of the cutest things ever 🥺😭). Onyx is my favorite of the series for sure - probably because this is where a lot of daemon & katy’s relationship develops, we see blake coming in & making daemon jealous lmaooo, where katy goes through all these changes, and all the new stuff we find out about the luxen/how they effect the people around them. also that ending ahhh!!

WOW!!!

What the hell was that?! I'm still coming down from the high reading Onyx took me to! Geez, Jennifer Armentrout are you trying to give me a f heart attack?! The emotional rollercoaster journey reading Onyx took me on has still got my heart racing an hour after I finishing the book...

I'll admit it. I re-read Obsidian before reading Onyx (which I'll re-read tomorrow also in case I missed anything as I read so fast). But damn, Jennifer you really raised the bar with this book! The never ending twists, whilst some were expected, others not so much, had me blitzing through Onyx just to see the happily ever after that Daemon and Katy deserved. But imagine my surprise when Jennifer Armentrout ended it on a cliff hanger... I mean seriously, what the hell?! I had to keep flicking back and forth through the pages to make sure I was actually at the end and when I realised I was, I was stumped! Like sat there, staring at my book in a daze stumped. I was not happy about that ending at all Miss Armentrout...

Anywho moving on...

Daemon. Sigh. You made the impossible, possible Jennifer Armentrout. I fell in more in love with Daemon than before somehow! I absolutely adored his jealousy towards Blake and his whole macho-man alpha persona towards Blake. I mean he was marking his territories and Blake just grinned! Boy needs to learn manners, respect and BOUNDARIES!!! Oh and I loved how Daemon never said Blakes name... He refered to him as every lads name beginning with B that you could think of (my personal favourite was Bobo). Ha. 
Daemon Black had me swooning all through out this book and when being at work and trying to not girlishly giggle at myself was hard. People at work would have been looking at me like I'd sported a new head or something...

Now Katy on the other hand I wanted to bitch slap here and friggen threre with her stupidity through out this whole book. I was right behind Daemon in the whole Blake thing. Using him to hurt Daemon?! That shit is not kosher! And then the whole Blake is a pyscho thing was totally expected but that isn't really Katys fault. Yet she still should have realised sooner...

Adam. We didn't get to meet him much but I felt like my heart had been ripped out and stomped on continously when he died. He didn't deserve that! 

Over all Onyx is the best book I've read all year and I can't wait till December comes for Opal. I will be anxiously awaiting more Daemon, Daemon-and-Katy and there new relationship and problems that will surely arrise with Dawson being back and the DOD!

Onyx is the second book to the Lux series... so if you haven't read it please do! This series is easily a guilty pleasure, break in the monotony of average reading and diving into a sci-fi world I didn't know I even wanted to be a part of.

Onyx follows more of Kat, Daemon and their families in their small town of West Virginia where things are getting even more... supernatural.

More men in black are showing up...
And is someone NEW trying to vie for Katy's heart? *Cue jealous raging teenage boy.*


Things I loved about book 2:
-More powers, more possibilities
-More flirting and kissing
-Daemon's sarcasm is (chef's kiss) him not getting Blake's (or is it Bart) name right had me LOLing
-More banter and Witt I lived for in Obsidian
-A little more story build and adventure
-creepy new characters
-a mediocre love triangle that brought to life the feelings between two love interests, bc every teenager in YA fiction is in denial of:
"oh he said he likes me? He doesn't mean it so I'm going to do everything in my power to ignore what he's saying"
 NEWS FLASH  Girls IRL don't do that 😂. They are more apt to jump to conclusions than deny them.

Moving On.

What I didn't love:
-I missed Dee in this one 
-The push and pull of Katy drove me INSANE at times... I know I know we are young and what not... again... I just wanted to shake her 


Now that I have torn through 2 books in 48 hours... neglected all of my PLANNED reads and ARCs for November... WHY STOP NOW?
