I read this on the plane home from Turkey, such a page turner! I need book two NOW! Such a brilliant dystopian world with amazing characters and plot twists!

About the Author As a child Jennifer loved getting lost in the stories of others, but struggled greatly with reading. Did I mention that New World :Rising is a dystopian story?Hell yes!It is one!The book basically begins with a map,yeah,I know,we all love maps in books,and a guide about all the tribes,and seriously,I love those few pages,cause those sketches and writings look so good!

What I decided is that I'll just put up the side headings for each topics I'm discussing about ,so I don't end up forgetting them or messing up the review.

Cover and Title: The title New World:Rising,fits perfectly with the story.Like there was an old world,now it's the New World,even the Rising is apt with the story.From the girl on the cover,the city down below,the green shade,every thing has a reason,a relation with the story,like,the girl,that's Phoenix,the city below,I'm not exactly sure which city it actually is,but it fits,and the green shade,the Tartarus has a greenish hue to its atmosphere,so you see,all of it is perfect,which is why I love this cover so much!

Writing: The author has a simple,uncomplicated style of writing.Like despite the rough and not-so-peaceful circumstances of the book,there's still a sense of serenity surrounding the book.It gives you the feels ,but not so intense feels,characters die too,but still,there's a calmness in the writing.And maybe a bit more of the world around would have been great,but whatever has been given,I liked it.The five Tribes,the way they live,the danger of being a lone wolf,and the other new group we come to know about,The Sanctuary on the other side of the wall,those were written pretty well.

Plot: It wasn't a slow-paced story,neither a fast paced,like it was a steady plot,yeah,a couple of parts were predictable,like for me,that was the case,but it wasn't detrimental to the plot.It did have quite a few elements of the usual dystopian books,but despite that it's a story you'll love to read.As I mentioned earlier,there were predictable parts,there were parts that were surprising and unexpected too!

Characters:The main character is a girl,Phoenix,quite an intelligent ,strong, independent, like she survived for 6 years on her own if I remember right,in Tartarus,which is quite a feat. She is also someone who stays away from feelings and emotions until this character, Mouse ,comes into her life,and then ,her life takes quite an interesting turn.There's Triven,who I kind of think ,is a small reason behind all the calmness.

The first of a trilogy, New World Rising is an epic tale of survival, instinct, trauma, and the extraordinary power of human connection.

Another dystopian, another day. This one I wanted to try out because I heard such good things about it, but personally I had some issues with it. The book was decent overall. I felt that the character development was really good and the storyline was interesting. Unfortunately these were the only things I liked.

I felt that while the pacing was okay, the beginning of the story dragged on really slow. Nothing really was interesting until over 50 pages into the book. I felt while the world building was really well done, I was left with more questions than answers about why we were in this world and what was happening. I also noticed some plot holes throughout the book. Also insta-love and cliffhangers.

Verdict: Overall, this book was good on the surface but when I started digging around the book I felt that this book had a lot of things left to explain.

There seems to be a trend on YA dystopia books lately, with the popularity of books like The Hunger Games and The Maze Runner. It seems like everyone wants to know how the world would be if society, as we knew it today, went through such a drastic war that almost everything was destroyed. It's a fascinating subject, and I'm glad to know that there are so many different takes on the question of "what if".

In this world, there really isn't a reason for why the world is in such disarray. However, we do know that in the "bad" part of the city, it is overrun by groups of people called the Tribes. Each Tribe has their own characteristics, but all of them are extremely deadly in their own way. One of the Tribes, known as the Ravagers, are considered the most dangerous, as they are thought to be the most violent. The Ravagers were the ones that killed Phoenix's parents, right in front of her eyes. If her parents hadn't hidden her in a sewage grate, she would have been killed too, and this book wouldn't have happened. This was when she was eleven years old, and for the past six years, she has had to learn how to survive on her own in such a perilous city.

For six years, she had never made any friends or other relationships. She was a recluse. She kept to herself unless she needed to make a trade for survival. She even went to great lengths to make sure that she didn't sleep in the same place for more than one night in a row. One night, everything changes when she sees a group of Ravagers hunting a little girl, and she does the unthinkable thing of trying to save her.

From that point on, she finds herself in a secret society, a group hidden from the rest of the Tribes, where defectors from both the Sanctuary and Tartarus (the city that Phoenix survived in for the past six years) are working together to accomplish... well it depends. Some of them want to take over the city from the Tribes, while the others want to take down Sanctuary. So either way, someone is going down. But who?

Phoenix is broken. She not only watched the vicious murder of her parents, but she had to watch her mother get raped by the Ravagers before she was killed. To make matters worse, another Tribe called the Scavengers tainted the bodies by stealing from them after the Ravagers were done from them. She has been traumatized so much, that she can't even allow herself to feel, to care about anyone, even though the alternative has been really lonely. I'm just so glad that by the time the book was over, she opened her heart to two people, and she learned to love again.

I really enjoyed this. I love dystopian stories and this one is excellent. The characters have depth, the story is engaging and intriguing and the setting is very well described. Cannot wait to read more!

I seriously love this book! I love the characters, I love the world building, I love it all. This was not as action packed as the previous one but we learnt so much. And that cliffhanger ending once again! Jennifer is too damn good at those!
