omg well this book is sooo awesome! i liked how it was two points of view and even tho i didnt really know some words, i still liked it!

An in-depth and uncomfortable examination into a sexual assault, and the devastating consequences it brings, not just to the victim but to the families involved. It is written in a thoughtful and respectful way. It's definitely worth reading due to the narration of both sides when it comes to a sexual assault. I really did like the novel, though I would wish it was a touch more intense.

¿Por qué Jenny Downham no sacó más libros? Inicio un poco lento, pero la historia en general es impresionante.

The characters in this book deal with heavy topics in ways that feels human. Sometimes their emotions get the better of them, sometimes they overthink, or don't think things through and make things worse. And that may be why I like this book. The ending may feel a little abrupt but honestly I was okay with that.

This book fascinated me. I purposefully avoided reading the summary so that I could go into the book with a blank slate. I'm glad I did. I loved the fact that this book was set in the U.K. (Of course, I'm pretty obsessed with all things British at the moment.) So many of the young adult books that I read are set either in the United States or some distopian future. (Most of those are set in the former United States as well.) Downham created a compelling story and nuanced characters all while not revealing the full details of the incident that sets these two families against each other. (ie...Ellie's protection of her brother is understandable and relatable as is her later decision) On top of that, Downham didn't feel a need to tie this story up in a pretty bow with all the problems solved. That would have been totally disingenuous. I liked this book so much that I'm definitely going to add Downham's other books to my to-read list. I definitely recommend this book. (Disclaimer: There is some swearing intermittently throughout the book along with a few other things that might be a little off-putting for some. It isn't gratuitous though. I wouldn't have been able to recommend it if it had been.)
