A meandering collection of essays and speeches that explore, among several topics, borders, the musicality of literature, transformations, and Erpenbeck's own literary influences. Like any good writer, Erpenbeck eloquently describes patterns and meanings in the world from seemingly disparate things, and I often found myself highlighting passages to mull over later. A quick but thoughtful read.
