One evening when I was home alone, I was reading this book on the couch. My man-friend, roommate, domestic partner, whatever (I feel too old to have a boyfriend) came home and quietly went about his just-got-home tasks. I figured he would say hi after he'd set down his keys, emptied his pockets, etc. He'd already walked by me twice. Just as he re-entered the room, I laughed out loud at something in the book. He yelled in alarm and startled so largely that I thought he might hurt himself. It took a few minutes for him to get his heart rate back to normal. He hadn't seen me on the couch and figured I was upstairs.

So, here's your recommendation: a book so entertaining that it may kill your boyfriend.

I liked this a little bit less than Furiously Happy, but I enjoyed it anyway. I can't even say why I enjoyed this book less, I think it was just as good as the first one (well, technically, the second one). But something was off, can't say what exactly. Maybe it was, after all, a bit weaker. 

It's a fun and funny memoir of a woman who suffers from generalized anxiety, depression and arthritis. And she. Is. Amazing. Such a strong woman. I honestly admire her and think she's a bit crazy, but in a good way. I find her jokes and storied to be hilarious, if not always laugh out loud funny.

I also immensely enjoyed the end where Jenny just talked nonsense into the microphone, pretty sure it wasn't in the physical book (I might be wrong, I don't own it).

Overall a great experience. I'll be waiting for more books by Jenny.

Oh, boo. This book...imagine that girl you know who always has a better story to tell, at least she thinks so. She's like, "You'll NEVER believe what happened to me!" And then she goes on and on, and turns a tangent into an exhausting series of tangents, all with language that makes you want to strangle her. Look, I'm not saying this was a terrible read (or audio book, in my case), but I am saying it could have been edited a million times over so it sounded less like a long-winded blog post written by a teenager and more like a humorous memoir written by a...writer.

Perhaps the audio book was particularly terrible because it was read by the author. I felt like I was stuck at a party with that annoying, weird guest everyone is trying to escape. I stopped listening with one disc left because it was really just exhausting. Guess I'm part of the minority on this one!

Blogger Jenny Lawson's life is pretty crazy, as she will often tell you. Most of her stories are rather hilarious, my favorites including the bobcat throwing at her fiancee or the "large Wisconsin grouse."

I definitely enjoyed her narration (really cute voice and accent) but sometimes grew fatigued of the wild heights some of her tales took. Many were played out as exagerated dialogue which led me to doubt how true some of her vignets really were.

Enjoyable over all, but may have been better as a print read so I could take breaks and come back whenever I needed a giggle.
