Petrified Women by Jeremy Ray. Thank you to the author for this gifted copy of his novella in exchange for an honest review. This is a horror novella and wow, I loved it! I read it in one sitting last night while home alone. It unnerved me, as a good scary story should. It is spooky, gory and very suspenseful. I would highly recommend this novella if you love a good scary horror story. I will definitely be seeking out more stories from this author now, he has me hooked. ‘Some choose fight, others choose flight, you chose freeze.’ 5/5. The author very kindly offered me a copy to go nicely with my spooky October reads. 

This novella is very fast paced and adrenaline inducing. I was sucked in immediately and I honestly couldn’t put it down. I read it, in its entirety, while lying down in the dark in bed. Definitely spooky! I will say I think I did kind of see some of the twists and turns coming, but that did absolutely nothing to prepare me for them, nor did it alter my enjoyment whatsoever. Thoroughly a heart-pounding novella of infatuation, manipulation, abuse, and horror. 

The wooden, petrified women reminded me of the super eerie flower-people from Annihilation. If you haven’t seen the movie look it up and I’m sure you’ll see what I meant after reading! 

I was super impressed and happy with the inclusion of a content warning to start the entire thing off. Definitely a thoughtful inclusion that is often not even thought about by authors.

Petrified Women was a prefect quick horror novella to read. It's spooky, twisted and quite haunting. The fast pace and high tension of this story keeps you on the edge of your seat. I really enjoyed creating theories as i read and contemplating the reality. A very creative and unique story.

Despite what her friend thinks, Harley thinks she has found the perfect boyfriend, sure his wood carving hobby of life sized females is odd and his obsession with pranks goes to far sometimes, but Harley puts that down to Aiden being an artist. 

Harley has a perfect birthday surprise for Aiden, a chance to finally blindside him with a prank of her own. While hiding in his apartment she witnesses a different side to Aiden, the side that only exists behind closed doors when no one else is watching.

The only disappointment I had with this book is that it wasn’t LONG ENOUGH! This was greatly written Harley and Aiden’s characters were both really interesting, I could o my wish we had more insight into Aiden. And I loved the suspense ending that really added to the story. 
I’m definitely interested to see other work from this author :)
