This was a short novella I was required to read for my CMN 396 Senior Capstone. I appreciate the vagueness and confusion, and people without a decent sense of historical events might have a bit of trouble understanding the relevance of the events occurring around Chance, the main character. (to be honest, I had to look up a few historical figures myself). I must say I abhor the ending less because it is unfinished but because we become emotionally invested in a character whom is static, which is on my list of pet peeves in stories. However, I feel that is exactly the point - that an ordinary man is caught in a whirlwind of the projections people put on him, and he lets himself be reinvented without any bother. Still, then, to whom should we relate ?
