Between Despair and Hope

One of the few good things about this book is that it’s about 200 pages shorter than the first. This book is DEEPLY mid, leaning towards terrible. It’s SO repetitive and the world building is so sloppy (we’ve somehow now included Elves, Ogres, and Fae??? With zero context). The writing is also so frustrating. Half the time you don’t even know who is speaking because she doesn’t give a name with her quotes and the transitions between chapters AND paragraphs make zero sense most of the time. There were timing issues between different character’s POVs and again more chapters that were almost completely useless to the story. Again, this is a more vibes, less plot book, but what plot existed was so threadbare it was crazy and the vibes are not great. I’m DNFing the series because I can literally tell you what is going to happen to all the characters and I’m not even sure how she’ll have enough material to write another 2 books.

So repetitive. The same plot happened 3 times within the same book got so old so quick and took me way too long to finish because I lost interest and just wanted to finish. Rain and Emma just got too much too. After he was taken just the same conversation over and over and over again, I could only handle it so much before I just started skimming over their conversations for a while.
