“My, my!” She squashes a smile. “That is a comprehensive little folder you’ve got there. If you know that, then you really do know how good I look in navy lingerie.”

He stops and squints for a second, then shrugs. “I liked you better in the white.”

“Do you?” he asked, a little miffed. And I don’t know why, but him looking a little deflated made me feel a tiny bit happy.

“Not really,” I conceded, and he perked right back up.

He started laughing and a piece of his laugh snagged on my heart and I didn’t want him to stop. We stayed like that for a while, at least a quarter of an hour, his hands on mine. Me on his lap, his chin on my shoulder.

I like getting breakfast with her. Like how her hair looks in the mornings, how puffy her lips go. I like how she never orders the same thing, ever, even when I can tell she wants to get what she had the day before, she won’t. There are strange things she does, learned, I think from the weird world we come from.

I’m trying to convince her to come to one of my rugby games on a Saturday morning—never had to convince a girl to come to one of them before, they’re usually just happy I asked them to—but she’s complaining about the weather and the cold and the time.

“You’re up at 8 am on Saturday anyway for Krav Maga,” I tell her.

How Daisy’s looked that night lives in my brain, rent-free, 365 days a year. Ordering coffee: Daisy’s face. Filling up my car: Daisy’s face. Buying milk: Daisy’s face. Just a good face, I guess.

“My best friend,” she says quietly, and I don’t know why, but that being her response makes me want to fucking throw up and I think I hate Romeo Bambrilla, which is weird, because a half an hour ago I didn’t have one bad thing to say about him and here I am now shrugging all dismissively in the face of his alleged best friend, talking shit about him.

And he loves her. He’d die for her, which I care about. That counts for something. But so would Christian, I reckon, though I don’t think Christian knows that yet. Then again, neither does my sister.

She’s a good kiss. Great mouth, good eyes, bit greener than Daisy’s, which are more like honey than anything, if you asked me their colour—which you didn’t, I know. Good mouth too—I mean, it’s fine.

Daisy’s is better. Bottom-heavy. More fun to kiss.

Still, I lean in more because I’m happy to get Henry off my fucking back, and it’s like—my mouth is hovering just a couple centimetres off hers, barely that even, I can feel her breath on me.

I swallow. My stomach lurches as I lean in and our mouths brush and I think about how Daisy looked at me the last time I saw her, looked at me like I was stupid—and I am—I like it when she thinks I look stupid.

I feel like she’d think I’m stupid now, wonder how she’d feel about me kissing Taura Sax to prove that I don’t have feelings for her—which I don’t—except that… do I?

“Of you?” I blink. “Sleeping with him?”

She smirks a little. “We don’t do jealous…”

I give her a half smile. “We do now.”

Doesn’t bat an eyelid at me the whole dinner—and I don’t need her to. Fuck, I don’t even think I want her to anymore. It’s kind of embarrassing that I love her, but I still do. That pulls a fucking number on me too, actually. I love Parks, I have for too long now—don’t really like her anymore, though. And Daisy is all I think about. She’s the one who I want to touch and spend all my time with. I like her, I like who she is—but I know I’m not in love with her because I’m been in love with Magnolia for years and it doesn’t feel the same to me.

“Hey.” Beej looks for her eyes and she interlocks her hands with his, puts his arm around her like the shield he’ll always be to her. “What’s going on?” [...]

She doesn’t play fair. He’ll always take her side, he can’t not. She could have said, ‘He won’t give me his right lung’ and BJ would still think I’m a prick.

“I don’t need your money,” he says as he pulls Dais back into himself, wraps his arms around her. Both Romeo and Declan shift their gaze from her and I reckon I can smell trouble on the horizon, but I don’t have time to deal with it right now.

“But yeah.” He kisses the back of her head. “I’m in."

He shifts himself so he’s on top of me, props himself up on his elbow, covers his own eyes and reaches out to touch my face. The corner of my top-right lip, to be precise. Then he moves up a little, taps about halfway between my eye and my mouth. Then down to my chin, the centre. Then over to my other cheek, just above my mouth.

I blink a few times as he uncovers his eyes.

“I know your freckles too,” he tells me.

Ugh this world is so weird. I can honestly say I didn't really like any of the characters (again) and was so frustrated by the story (again) I'm not sure I CAN say I enjoyed it (again), and yet, I couldn't put it down. Do I like toxic, messy stories? I didn't think I did but here we are.

I did actually like Daisy was more than I've liked any of the other main character's in this world so far though, which honestly isn't saying much considering how low that bar was set, but if I had to choose a favourite I guess it would be her? I did kind of enjoy learning about her backstory and I do think she's an objectively cool character. Until, of course, the third act breakup when she started acting like a complete fool who'd forgotten she was an extremely intelligent woman and chose to forgo any real communication for ill-intended pettiness that just seemed so, so beneath her.

I'll keep reading the series, for reasons unbeknown to me, but will most certainly be taking a break for my sanity. There's only so many times a girl can audibly groan at a book in frustration before she needs to set boundaries.

I think this book unintentionally made me dislike Magnolia Parks?! Maybe it’s just my personality type but Daisy Hates, her love life, her backstory & her crime family dynamic has caught my attention in the best way! I can’t wait to see what the other books have in store & who the next main characters will be!

so much better than the 1st one. daisy is such a strong character and hers and julian’s story🥺🥺. I just think thst her and christian really need to uncomplicate things and just be together (it’s not that hard)

I love jealousy but Christian was so annoying at some point. He literally mentioned Daisy in every single sentence. He compared EVERYONE to Daisy. He started hating Italy because she went. And he STILL said he doesn't like her. Dude, WHAT💀 And even after he realized he likes her he didn't realize he loved her. Literally how dumb can someone be?

The end was so depressing, too. I need another break from the series💀

Also I was afraid I would be team Julian in Magnolia's second book because I see a lot of people loving him and I also saw some quotes. I absolutely loved the story line of this book but the footnotes killed me. Kindles were not meant for books with so many footnotes. Daisy is such a multidimensional character. Excited to see what’s next for her.

I think so far Daisy is my favourite character.

Yet again this series keep breaking my heart and I still want more. But I need to digest the heartbreak so I won’t immediately read the third book.

The best way to describe this series is : British gossip girl, but better, and with gang lords. 

I love it so much.

But I have to admit that I was less chocked by the things they did or their drama, especially bc there is less in this book than the first one. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I think it would have been too much, so it was perfect the way it was. 

Daisy wants to be free, she wants a normal life, but still loves the money 🤪
I love her so much. She’s strong and she can fight for herself, and she fights for what’s right! She deserves to be loved and happy and peaceful.

Christian might be my second favourite character. He’s sweet but also a bit fck up, especially because of Magnolia and he deserves 10000% times better than her. I still love her, but she treated him poorly and kind of took advantage of his feelings for her. For years !

I really hope Daisy and Christian get to have a happy ending together. That’s all I want. 🥰

I also hope Jules will find his way back, he lost himself and the person he loved to most.

Daisy is such a likeable character, she's genuinely such a breathe of fresh air from Magnolia, because in this book, we see Magnolia from the point of view of Christian, and you sort of see how messed up she really was in book 1, it's like the Magnolia effect even worked on us readers. I loved seeing the events in book one being mentioned in book two, it seriously felt so cool to see an understand what was going on. 

Christian Hemmes had one of the biggest character developments I have ever seen; he really changed and that was such a successful resolution in my opinion. 

I love all of the body guards and side characters, the gang lords and members of Julians gang, it seriously made the book that touch better. 

I felt all of the emotions in this book, and that's what makes, in my opinion, books 5 stars. I cried and i laughed and that's what's the most important for me.

I’m honestly quite scared for the next book but let’s be honest, I’ll definitely be reading it 😭
