I loved loved this book. It was one the best witches book I have read in a long time. I can't enough of this series. I want Cate and Finn to be together. I don't know about Cate's sisters though. I do like Tess but I really didn't like Maura from the start. She just sound like a spoiled girl. And now I don't like her even more. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I am glad my library has it so I don't have to wait to buy it cause I need to read it now.

This book is set in the late 1890’s where witches are feared. It takes place in an alternate history New England. The brotherhood have taken over and they’re doing everything they can to put an end to the witches. If they found you were a witch you’d be taken, would be tried unfairly and locked in a asylum. 

Cate Cahill, the main character, at age 14 promised her dying mother who was also a witch that she would take care of her sisters. Now 6 months away from being 17 she has a decision to make, join the sisterhood (which is not what it seems) or a young man proposes to you. If you’re unsure the brotherhood chooses for you. 

Cate cares deeply for her family. Cate has always been there for her sisters while their father has been working and going away for business after the loss of his wife. 

Cate is very protective of her sisters. She tries not to use her magic at all, she fears their discovery. So many people are depending on her and it amazes me that she doesn’t crack under the pressure. While juggling different responsibilities, her mom leaving her clues and threats there is also a love triangle. 😉 Cate is a character who I just want to give a big hug to. I admire her so much! 

Maura Cahill, the middle child, is the rebellious one. She likes to read romances and wants to escape the town she lives in. She seeks attention everywhere she goes and she’s manipulative. Maura and Cate argue a lot over their magic, Maura wants to learn how to use it but Cate doesn’t. Tess Cahill is the youngest. She is calm and optimistic. Tess is sweet and understanding, the magic just flows through her. 

Their father other than leaving for work shares his forbidden books with his daughters and educates them.

Now to the love triangle. Paul has been in Cates life since they were children. Finn works in his mothers bookstore and the Cahill’s garden. I am team Finn all the way!! Neither of them are bad boys they’re both nice guys. The decision she makes at the end breaks my heart 💔

The side characters give us a better look into the lives of the elite and the lower class. We’re slowly given clues and details that will affect every decision Cate has to make. The book is very descriptive of the dresses and other clothes they wear and I feel as though I am with them while they’re drinking tea together.

The author also writes in the daughters of Persephone. There’s a same sex relationship. The end of the book ends in a cliffhanger.

Also did I mention there’s a prophecy? 

I love this book with all my heart!! It’s probably the longest relationship I’ve ever had 😅 I’ve had this book for over 5-6 years and I try to read it at least once every year sometimes twice ☺️ Cate and Finn are my favorite book couple 💞 If you’ve never read a fantasy book you will still enjoy this!! READ IT! Anyways I’m off to go read the sequel👋🏻💜

у книги две беды, нет, три - 1) повествование ОЧЕНЬ медленное, за всю книгу происходит 2 важных события и меньше десятка неважных, все остальное время героиня думает о маме и о том, как плохо и опасно быть ведьмой 2) тема колдовства почти не раскрыта, мы так и не узнаем, что ведьмы могут, а чего не могут, скажем, понятно, что могут изменять воспоминания, но непонятно, могут ли подчинять волю 3) герой почти нераскрыт, и нифига непонятно, чего это она внезапно кинулась к нему целоваться

а, еще очень много мизогинии - мужчины в этой вселенной плохие и чмырят женщин. not my cup of tea

не буду дальше читать продолжение. там в целом и так примерно ясно, чем дело кончится

I really did not what to expect when I picked up this read. I had heard some mixed reports, but I really loved this book. I also loved how this book was regency romance with a magical twist. I also loved how this book focused on sisters and sisterhood. It was a very quick read, i also really loved the romance at the heart of the read, I did not expect to get a romance that I loved. It was such a fun read, I hope in future books that world building gets expanded. I really loved this read!

I'm not sure what my feelings are about this book, but possibly because I was just indifferent to the main character the entire time. The book's strength is definitely the high tension surrounding the danger that the girls were in and I was incredibly angry at the Brotherhood. However, I found myself annoyed at being in the main character's head most of the time and she felt very wishy-washy even though there were clear motivators in the story. I liked that the Sisterhood was essentially a school for witches to protect themselves right under the Brotherhood's noses, but I won't be continuing this series due to how unpassionate about everything MC was.

Side note: I really did not like the homophobia MC had towards her younger sister that she tried to backtrack. That pretty much soured the whole book for me at the end.

I loved Born Wicked so much. This novel follows our main character Cate, in an early 1900s society in which women are punished for being witches. It has a very Salem Witch trials feel, but isn’t quite as harsh as those times. Women (most of which are not actually witches) are punished by being sent to asylums/prisons; with your occasional “random” disappearance. This is also a time when being a woman in this society was very difficult. Our main character is a witch trying to protect herself and her sisters (mostly her sisters) but also fit into society; juggling being a witch and being pressured to choose either marriage or joining the Sisterhood.

The writing is fast paced and was just really fun to read. The characters were pretty much perfect in their roles. I did at times want to strangle Cate’s sister Maura. I really enjoyed Cate as a main character. There were times where I thought maybe she was being a little too harsh, but with everything she has to deal with, I thought it was realistic she might act that way. Cate has so much responsibility. Trying to protect her sisters and figure out all of the obstacles she is presented. She’s very selfless, which I admire, but I really wanted her to just do something for herself for once. It’s not a privilege that is available to her.

As much as I would love to talk about the love interest, I can’t. I can’t really tell you who it is, because spoilers, but ugh I just loved him so much. There is a bit of a love triangle in this, but one side of it is pretty much just that, one sided.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend it to people who love young adult paranormal. Again, it does have the historical fiction thrown in there too. I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next two books.

This was a fun read but it was a little slow for me. Cate Cahill is a witch and so are her two sisters. Being a witch is against the law and the punishment is great, so the sisters have to keep it a secret that they were born with powers. There mother died years ago and Cate has taken it upon herself to try and help raise her sisters and make sure they don't expose themselves to anyone. Her time is starting to run out in a few months she will become of age and she will have to choose a husband or have one chosen for her by the brotherhood, she can also choose to serve the sisterhood but that would take her away from home and away from her sisters. Her childhood friend from next door is finally coming home from college, she hasn't seen him in four years. She always figured that she might marry him someday but she hasn't seen him in so long and he never wrote or contacted her in anyway so maybe she was wrong. Then there is the new gardener her father just hired. Cate has known Finn Belastra her whole life his family owns the bookstore in town, but she never noticed him like she does now. To help Cate and her sisters come out in society her father decides to hire a governess. To Cate this is just one more person she has to hide from and try to keep her sisters safe. Then mysteriously she receives a letter stating that she need to find her mothers journal and that she shouldn't trust anyone. As she searches for answers she finds that there is a horrible prophecy that might be about her and her two sisters.



 Cate is a fun heroine, she has a big heart and would do anything for her sisters. She changes so much throughout the book and learns so much about herself and her destiny. She has made a lot of mistakes in the past but she is always trying to whats best for her and her family even if that means giving up the only boy she has ever loved. I really liked her as a character and felt that she was easy to connect with and like. She has a hard time with her sister Maura who loves that she a witch and is pretty rebellious against Cate. Then there is Tess who is the youngest sister and she is just sweet but a very powerful witch. Even though they have their differences they all rely on each other very much.



Now for the boys first we have Paul, Cates childhood friend. They grew up together and he was always there for her except when she needed him most. For the last four years he has been away at school and in that time her mother died and she was left to raise her sisters pretty much by herself. She has always cared about Paul but can she forgive him for abandoning her? Also is there really more than friendship between them? Will she simply marry him because she has no other choice? I actually like Paul he is a sweet guy and I think that he does truly care about Cate. Next we have Finn, and honestly when the authors describes him I pictured my husband :)!!! Finn has lots of freckles brown hair and is really cute, which is basically what my husband looks like. So of course I think that Finn sounds very attractive, but there is more to him than that. Cate can be herself around Finn and she trusts him. She also finds him very attractive and they defiantly have chemistry, but Finns father died a few years ago and he has to support his mother ans sister. He really doesn't have the means to support a wife right now and the clock is ticking for Cate she only has a few months left to decide what she is going to do.



I really did enjoy this book, it has a great story , wonderful romance, and magic!!! The only thing for me was it took me about half the book to be really into it. There is a lot of background information that you have to learn and it just dragged for me, but once I got into the story I couldn't put it down and I honestly can't wait for book 2 to come out. There is a pretty bad cliff hanger at the end of the book that just breaks your heart a little. I will defiantly be reading the rest of this series. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves magic and witches!!!
