Everyone in Silico

Everyone in Silico

Jim Munroe2002
In 2036 the prestige technology of choice is Self, a service that offers the ultimate upgrade. People are having their minds digitally transferred to a place called Frisco, a privately-owned reality that overlays the destroyed San Francisco. But most people aren't considering it a metaphysical leap of faith, or weighing the quality of life in a corporate nation -- they're going to Frisco because that's where the jobs are. Not everyone's gone virtual, however. Doug's a coolhunter past his prime who's scrambling to get the money together for a Self package his family's not ashamed of. Nicky's a genetic artist getting by with a ratdog scam, thrilled that rents in Vancouver have dropped with all the emigration. Eileen hasn't seen her little boy for days and worries he's gone to Frisco without her. Luckily she used to have a job hunting humans... Everyone in Silico is science fiction with characters as deeply contradictory as the fractured world they inhabit. It's science fiction that is more interested in the future of the suburbs and subcultures than in how a laser tank or lightspeed works.
