The Bride Goes Rogue The Fifth Avenue Rebels #3

Joanna Shupe2022
By beloved USA Today bestselling author Joanna Shupe, the third installment in the Fifth Avenue Rebels series about an arranged engagement destined for disaster. A hard-hearted tycoon. A romantic dreamer. An engagement set up to fail. The charismatic and vivacious Katherine Delafield should be married by now. Her father arranged an engagement to the much sought-after tycoon Preston Clarke ages ago. The only problem is Preston refuses to acknowledge it. But this isn't going to stop Katherine from living life to the fullest as she ditches all silly notions of love and marriage and sets out to sample all the excitement New York City has to offer . . . the more scandalous the better. Because no matter what happens, she and Preston will never marry. After a tormented childhood, Preston is done letting his father control his life--including choosing his bride. But when a mysterious lover at a masquerade turns out to be his would-be fiancée, Preston's resolve begins to crumble. He hadn't expected Katherine to be so charming. Or beautiful. Or passionate. And seeing her out on the town with other men is driving him crazy. What happens when the wrong bride turns out to be the right woman after all?

Wowza, this book! It had everything I love in a historical romance. Witty banter? Check. A strong-willed main character? Check. A rogue with a squishy tender inside? Check. I enjoyed watching Katherine and Preston's relationship blossom from passionate trysts to forging a real connection. Katherine was so determined to take her life by the reigns, and I loved watching her put her dreams of opening an art museum into motion. Preston was one of those loveable anti-heroes who make many mistakes and bad choices, but you still can't help but root for them. Their chemistry was amazing, and they are probably my favorite couple in this series so far. I think the conflict at the end wrapped up a little too quickly (though I did love Preston's top-notch groveling), but other than that, I loved it. I can't wait for Nellie's book next!

hmm. maybe a 3.25/3.5 stars? this started off really strong as a great arranged marriage to enemies to lovers story but tapered off for me as it went. i think the entire masquerade scene was SO good and it set up a great situation for them to hate each other in their normal lives but know that they can't help being attracted to one another. however, that angsty hatred was over quite quickly? instead the plot switched to Preston just refusing to marry her but not being able to live without her which was selfish and annoying lol. i think it would have been better if they didn't accept their attraction to one another so fast. i also didn't care much for either character on a personal level, especially Preston. he honestly got on my nerves and just presented himself in a way that i didn't particularly enjoy. overall i didn't hate this romance but i also didn't love it as much as i was anticipating which is a BUMMER bc i loved the previous book and was hoping this one would live up to the hype as well. oh Yeah...i'm sorry but i have to mention the intense ick i got whenever they were into their royalty/french roleplay? kink? not even kink shaming here lol it was fine at the masquerade but every time he referred to her as reinette or she called him my king i kinda wanted to die lol. (keep in mind i just have a problem with the overkill of pet names especially if they're that specific) i WILL be tuning in to the sequel though ☝️

Sighs. I wish I loved this. It had good pacing, decent characters, and the beginning had me glued to the pages but as the story progressed, that quickly fizzled out. This didn’t feel like a historical romance. Sure it had some elements that would categorize it as a historical piece yet it felt more contemporary. I have to agree with a fellow reader—the characters didn’t seem like they were from this era. It threw the whole story off balance. And speaking of the story/plot—very predictable. “The Bride Goes Rogue” is a dime a dozen. Wished I had more decent things to say but overall it was meh.
