Four years after the first time I read this book I decided to re-read it. I had no idea if I still liked the book or not. Specially since the last book I read by Joanne Harris was not a favorite. Holy Fools remembered me why I loved this author's work. The character's points of views are very distinctive even do the author doesn't actually tells you who's point of view is.

Souer Auguste or Juliette is currently living in Abbey of Saint Marie-Le-Mar with her daughter after running away from her past life as an actress. And all starts with the actors as she says right in the beginning. The actors visiting the abbey and one of them probably recognizing her from when she was 'Ailée, "The Winged One," star performer of a troupe led by LeMerle, before betrayal forced her to change her identity.

Everything is going to be turn outside when her peaceful live in the abbey is disturbed by the arrival of the new Mére and Pére Columbin. Why? Well the Pére is non other than LeMerle that has come to the abbey with a plan in mind that Juliette is clueless about his plan for the Abbey and tries to run away but the disappearance of her daughter forces her to stay and watch as his plan is set in motion.

I will refrain myself from writing more spoilers from the book from now. Juliette is a very interesting character and very well developed. I loved the writing style and how the author made is sound like we were there. But the character that for me that complete stole the show was the villain, well for me he is not exactly a villain. He is more a anti-hero in my opinion, don't know if it's because I liked him or because we both have a problem with the church. It also helped that the character of the Mére Isabelle was absolutely annoying and detestable.
