(Warning: Spoilers!) We all probably know The Tales of Beedle the Bard from the seventh Harry Potter book (The Deathly Hallows). The book, much like most children’s books, has a lot of moral depth, and subliminal messages in it. I mean, after all, it was written by the queen of allegories, J.K. Rowling. I loved the book overall. The stories were light, sometimes funny, and very enlightening. The Wizard and the Hopping Pot tells you the story of how one should help others as they would want others to help them as well. It teaches people to view the world from the point of view of the struggle of those who seek our help. The story of The Fountain of Fair Fortune is truly a fascinating one to me because of how well it resonates with what I believe. The story is that of three witches, one with a sickness that no one could heal, one who was struggling with poverty, and one who lost her lover and was seeking the fountain to relieve her of her pain and grief, and a frail knight. And so, the three witches and the knight each of them help each other in getting to the fountain. Upon reaching the fountain, they all get with what they want, with the help of each other. This story really shows us how as humans, as much as we’d like to depend on ourselves for most of our lives, we cannot truly do that. We humans were built in order to cooperate and help each other. My favorite story in this book is the story of The Warlock’s Hairy Heart. The story tells the story of a man who has had his heart broken when he could not marry the woman he desires. Due to that, and the pain he was suffering, he decided that he would take his own heart out of his chest, and put it in a box, so that he may not feel any pain, or anything really at all. As time went by, the man decided that despite his love for one woman, and his inability to feel for anyone else (because his heart was not inside of him), he decided to get married. When he decided to put his heart back to its place, he found that his heart had grown hair, and looked very beast-like. And that exactly was the feeling he had in his heart when he put it back where it belonged. Inside of him, he felt like a beast. This story teaches us one thing, it’s that when we seek to detach ourselves from feelings, we will grow monstrous, and evil. In turn, we will end up hurting those we might love in the future. It shows us how our weakness to confront our feelings can result into us turning into people who are monstrous and evil. I urge anyone who has not read The Tales of Beedle the Bard to read it. We can all learn a lot from such stories, and we can all resonate with these stories in a different way.

I really enjoyed this collection of wizarding fairy tales and additionally thought Professor Dumbledore's commentary to be similarly amusing, especially the notes following The Fountain of Fair Fortune. Each of the tales taught something different and they were all wonderfully magical. Glad to have picked this up and to have finally read it!

This was a charming short read that made me smile by transporting me briefly back to one of my most loved worlds. I loved the way it was set up with Dumbledore's notes. JK Rowling obviously took a lot of time and put in her best effort to make this small set of short stories come to life. Don't miss out on this on and be prepared to feel nostalgic! The audiobook is also amazing and narrated by some of the stars from the movie.

I loved this little book, and especially the tale of the three brothers. I couldn't help but to read it hearing Hermione's voice inside my head. Babbitty Rabbitty and her cackling stump was a fun read, I didn't expect all the stories to be so amusing, but they were. Hopefully there'll be a Norwegian translation of this in the future, I think kids would like this one (maybe except the tale of The Warlocks Hairy Heart - what a sad story;().
