This book was so enjoyable and funny and relatable and made me reflect on my own high school and college experiences. Unlike Peyton, I wasn't name called or bullied for being tall or had issues dating (coz you know.... you didn't "date" in high school in South India in the early 2000s), but I could find similarities with so many of her struggles - hitting the seat in front of you in the bus with your knees coz your legs are too long, not finding the right fitting clothes or size 12 shoes in the women's section, feeling guilty for blocking the view of others behind me.... and always peeved that none of my secret crushes were ever taller than me. So, it was great to read about an MC who reminded me a little about myself.
     Peyton is a pretty amazing talented girl but is not confident enough to express herself and the secrets of her dysfunctional family have left her unable to trust anyone or show her vulnerabilities. Jay is a great looking tall guy who doesn't play sports and wants to be an actor and can dance very well - I was really impressed with this characterization because it is so different from the usual macho jock stereotype. It also helps that he is a nice, kind, trustworthy guy who is also very charming and really brings Peyton out of her shell. I loved her character growth and the way she comes into her own is amazing to see. The whole dynamic of the team in the drama club was very entertaining and I enjoyed their rehearsals for the modern day adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. But my favorite character was definitely Peyton's best friend Chloe, who is absolutely confident, sassy and takes no bullshit when it comes to her friend. She really reminded me of my childhood best friend and now I really miss her 😭😭😭
     Overall, this is a fun entertaining read with very easy flowing writing and lovable characters but I definitely reveled in the nostalgic feelings it evoked in me.

If I'm completely honest, Peyton really annoyed me in the beginning, haha. I can understand that as a girl, when you're really tall it can make you insecure. Most things aren't made for the tall girls. Which is completely unfair. Another thing that annoyed me was how rude she was to her mother (I had a feeling there would be more to this story, but we had to wait for that, haha). While I think it's wrong to bet money to see if someone can date (playing with feelings is wrong), this is an important journey for Peyton. Jay is her dream guy and he sees the real Peyton more than she realizes. He calls her out and makes her think about things. I love the journey Peyton goes through and how she makes it into something positive. Her best friend Chloe and the teas she made, actually made me smile. They all sounded really good. Jay made the list of book boyfriends!

Who would’ve thought that a book about a tall girl will appeal to this short girl?

This is not just your average romance novel, there are some deeper lessons that you can learn, something that you can either know about yourself or about the people around you. This is definitely not just a story about a tall girl that learns to accept who she is but also that everyone should learn to love themselves for who they are. 

Admittedly Peyton did work on my nerve with her constant complaining and to this self-confessed mama’s girl, her relationship with her mother got me worked up. But true to Macgregor’s style, all was revealed in an epic twist and I could then understand the relationship a little better. 

I adored the whole misfit crew, you could see all of the characters grow throughout the story. There was laughter with a couple of very witty jokes, my heart raced with Peyton as she fell for the tall boy, I could feel the weight of keeping her secret, cried with her at 1 in the morning. 

Well done Joanne this is another great read.
