You know, it can be difficult to write the middle book in the series and keep the momentum going. I thought this did fairly well, although I felt most of the shock of this creepy afterlife had worn off. Still, it was a delightful read and I know I now have to go get my hands on the third book pronto so I can see how this all ends. I'm definitely giving this one a solid 4 stars.

In this one, May Bird's journey is mostly a fight within herself - albeit with plenty of obstacles along the way. Zombies, demonic cats, goblins who like musicals... I could keep going, but you get the gist of it. Mostly, she sees what needs to be done to save the world but she also knows that her world and her mother are soon to be within reach. Most people experience struggles within themselves, but most people aren't expected to save an entire world from a tyrannical oppressor at the age if 13. I don't blame May for being a little freaked out.

I thought the ending of the book was good, although it is a cliff hanger like this first book. I look forward to seeing how the series wraps up.
