I recently read a book of Newton's writings and picked this up since I only knew the basics about his story. In the author's note at the end, she indicated that nearly everything except for the love triangle was true in this book. Why unnecessarily add a love triangle? Who knows!
So I can't judge the book based on the story, if the story is true. But this was pretty sappy, the romance was almost entirely physical attraction, which was disappointing, and the writing was pretty simplistic. The story of John's conversion was the redeeming factor in this book, along with the research and Polly's recognition for her own need of grace.
I definitely enjoyed reading Newton's own writing more than a fictional book about him. But I can also see how readers who like Hallmark movies would like this book too.
