This was really good! Two short stories about the house and its keys, one that has to do with well I won't spoil with what, but it has to do with previous residents of the Keyhouse and the other short story is with familiar faces.. which I have to say, I really hope and can't wait for new stories! Amazing artwork as always by Gabriel Rodriguez!

Another strong and strange volume in this series. Also slightly disturbing in its subject matter. What if you could remove things from your brain that you wanted to get rid of? I mean, LITERALLY remove them. Wow. Actually kinda creeped me out a bit. Artwork & characters still great. Though I'd like to smack a couple of them sometimes. Really enjoying this series.

I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought it would. I didn’t like the art style very much and the magic/supernatural subplot wasn’t as interesting as it could’ve been. The entire book felt like the exposition for a horror movie.

4.5/5 Just like the first volume, I absolutely loved this!! I am so hooked into this story and am loving how it’s progressing. This graphic novel is doing a really good job of keeping me interested. I think this books pacing is really good as I never felt like I was struggling to get through it (I actually finished this in one sitting). I again really like the art style used in this, it’s absolutely visually stunning! Overall, I am definitely going to continue reading the next volumes!!

I love Locke and Key, but I am glad I am getting these supplementary volumes from the library as they are quite sparse. There were three stories in this one, but really only the first one made it worth while. It was a bittersweet story about parental love. The others, a Grindhouse parody and a silly gag comic were good for completionists, but didn't really add much to the overall universe. The rest of the book were photos and sketches which are very YMMV.

The story is getting better and better but unfortunately I am still not used to this art. I cant take it seriously which is what is taking me out of this series. I will persist forward since my friends said that volume 4 is really good. I was going to give this a 3 star but it just barely made to 4 because the story is good.

I could, as seems customary in cases like this one (where twenty thousand million people—and a half—loved a book but two—and one quarter—didn't), put one of those silly "unpopular opinion" warnings at the top of this review. But I won't. Ha. "Why," you ask? Because: 1/ Love a book? Hate a book? Doesn't matter. It's your opinion, you're entitled to it. No need to apologize for not agreeing with the masses. Your opinion is what makes you YOU, so bloody shrimping own it. And stuff. 2/ People who feel offended by those who dare criticize a book they love can kiss my pincers. 3/ I don't give a flying fish what others think of my opinion. 4/ I'm in a great mood today. Soooooo, Locke & Key. I first tried reading this volume three years ago. I'd purchased the Kindle version but reading comics and graphic novels on a tablet/computer/whatever is not for me. What can I say, I'm one of those decrepit, ancient ones who prefer good old paper over digitalized stuff. Anyway, the paperback version was a total rip off 20€ at the time, so I decided to wait until the price went down and stuff. And now I wish I hadn't bothered here we are. Okay, let's cut the crap and get this over with: ① I didn't like the art. Frankly, I thought most of the characters looked downright grotesque. There's the Medusa wannabe who looks like a guy: The teenager who looks like a 40-year-old gorilla: The P.E. teacher who has Picasso-worthy hands and looks like a man: The guy with the rabbit teeth who looks like he might or might not be related to the P.E. teacher of the Picasso-worthy hands: And let's not forget this delicious-looking lady who's so bloody sexy I'm considering locking her up in my harem: Long story short: the characters are both ugh and ew. Also, their faces are too pointy and angular. Damn, chins that sharp should be outlawed or something. I mean, I'm pretty sure they're more serrated and deadlier than my murderous babies' pincers and stuff. Oh, before I forget: can someone tell me what the shrimp is up with the shades on the characters' faces? Please someone, anyone, get the poor boys a bucket of under eye concealer or something! I could go on and on about this lovely bunch, tell you about the super contagious Snarly Mouth Virus (SMV™) they're all obviously suffering from, or about That Weird Semi Round Thing They Have on their Jagged Little Chins (TWSRTTHotJLG™), but things to do, homicidal shrimps to unleash and all that crap, so I won't. Lucky you and stuff. One last thing I want to mention, though: there's quite a lot of violence in this volume. And lots of blood, too. This could have been most delightfully gruesome, had it not looked like someone kept inadvertently dropping cans of tomato sauce all over the panels. Kind of takes the horror out of the horror story and stuff. And makes the whole thing feel like a ridiculous B movie. But hey, it's not all bad. I mean, the art sort of reminded me of a Gorillaz album, which in turn reminded me of my glorious youth, so yay and stuff. ② I didn't give a shrimping fish about any of the characters. Even lowly barnacles have more charisma that this unlikable bunch here. And my infamous herd of ironing boards is way more emotional than them, too. But what's really depressing here is that I didn't even lust over the villains. And that's quite suicide-inducing, if you ask me. ③ I couldn't have cared less about the plot. It was meh and it was sloooow and it was boring and it was all over the place and it was confusing as fish. Only not in Gloriously Befuddling Glen Cook Way (GBGCW™). And I guess the story might have been appropriately terrifying/sinister/macabre/whatever if the art hadn't been so OTT as mentioned ↑↑. But it was, so it wasn't. Oh, and by the way, naming your supposedly creepy New England town Lovecraft isn't particularly clever. It's nothing more than pretentious high-school level name-dropping. » And the moral of this This Graphic Novel is One of the Most Popular and Highest Rated on Goodreads This is it That Proves it The Fluffy Siberian Bunnies Have Hacked the Site This is the End Crappy Non Review (TGNiOofMPaHRoGTisTPiTFSBHHtSTisECNR™) is: go ahead Locke & Key maniacs, unleash all hell on me because I had the despicable audacity not to fangirl about your precious! I am not afraid and stuff! Also, my murderous crustaceans are ready for you! [April 2015] Note to self: stop trying to read comics on your Kindle Fire. The screen is too small and the panels seem to have a life of their own (oh look! They zoom in and out all by themselves! It's magic!). Ugh. I guess I'll just have to wait for this to go on sale. Because there's no way I'm spending 20€ on a graphic novel. Nope nope nope.

** spoiler alert ** Take into account that I didn't read the book in its intended format, and maybe the graphic novels are better. I think most of the actors did an excellent job and had a very good performance. I did have issues with some of the choices (Bode not being voiced by a child, and Kinsey's tears and fears were especially annoying) but overall it was fine. The overall story was very good, especially the last book, but it did have its ups and downs. Especially with the characters, I think most were pretty unlikeable (even when you have to harbor some sympathy since they just suffered a tremendous loss), and the only smart people in the entire series were Bode, Jason Bird, and Rufus. The worst book, in my opinion, was Keys to the Kingdom, specifically the chapter "White", which tried to tackle racism but ended up being really tone-deaf. I also didn't really like the treatment of Rufus throughout the whole story. Overall I do think the audiobook is fine, but probably better if you already read the graphic novels.

The original Locke and Key saga is one of my favourite comic book runs of all time (the other being The Walking Dead). I went into this expecting the full deluxe hardcover edition to be the short story. I was wrong, it's a single issue with extras. If you don't mind not having this as a physical copy, you can view it for free online. I wish someone would've told me that it was just a snapshot. I still would've purchased it, but I wouldn't have felt cheated out of my money. With that being said, I will be buying Locke and Key: Heaven and Earth because now I know what I'm getting and I do want a complete collection. & I'm ecstatic that the interview confirms sometime in the future there's going to be another long run using the same mythology. It's always good to be back in Lovecraft, Massachusetts.

Another great one-shot! A key that opens a door to a dollhouse which is the representation of a real house. What a cool idea! It might've been to short to care for the characters, but the plot was exciting anyway.

4.5/5 Reread January 24th, 2021 Still amazing. Also I think I missed the epilogue from this volume when I was reading it for the first time. And it was important! First read in November, 2015 That was really good. Not as twisted as the fisrt one, but the plot development was better and we got to see more Luke/Zack. I kinda love him and hate him at the same time.

I am not a horror fan but something about this series really clicked for me. I enjoyed it a lot and am very unvested in finding out what happens to the Locke kids. I am a huge wuss when it comes to horror films but in graphic novel form it appears that I can handle it a lot better which was a nice discovery. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series.
