100 Great Modern Lives

The editor's aim in compiling this book has been "to give a view of our times through the lives of some of the people who have most influenced them". He has included men and women whose work and achievements have fallen mainly or wholly within a period from 1850 to the present day, selected from as wide a filed as possible. The short biographies, written by thirteen contributors, are arranged chronologically by year of birth.
