Many times I have stated how the Charlie Parker books are some of my favorites ever written.  Once again, John Connolly tortures readers by creating characters they would like as friends, and then does terrible things to them.  One person that I was hoping would become part of the regular gang was done away with.  Louis and Angel are back, along with Moxie Castin.  Reading a Charlie Parker book is like visiting with old friends.  The visit is never long enough, and you always look forward to the next one.  

Again, my biggest criticism of Connolly is that his liberal attitude is apparent in the book, and I don't like reading books where people feel compelled to insert their personal real-world politics.  I also don't like reading books that reference Covid.  I feel like it anchors them to closely to a real time.  I will tolerate this nonsense, thought, because I enjoy these books so much.  I am beginning to wonder if there will ever be a big "reveal" of the truth of Parker's implied otherworldliness, and if there will be a final confrontation with the "big evil thing" that is lurking on the periphery of Parker's life, or if it is just something that is "there" drawing him to cases he might not otherwise be involved in.  I've been expecting something since the big confrontation in the church in England a few books ago, but it hasn't happened yet.
