Erak's Ransom (Ranger's Apprentice Book 7)

De Skandiërs hebben in boek 4 (De dragers van het Eikenblad) een niet-aanvalsverdrag met Araluen gesloten. Daarom zijn Jarl, Erak en zijn mannen gedwongen hun geluk verderop te zoeken. Als zij, op zoek naar buit, langs de kust van het verre Arrida in een hinderlaag lopen, wordt Erak gevangengenomen. Zijn mannen worden naar Skandia teruggestuurd om losgeld voor hun aanvoerder op te halen. Erak vermoedt echter dat de hinderlaag een valstrik is geweest van een rivaal die uit is op zijn functie. Hij adviseert zijn mannen om het losgeld niet in Skandia te halen, maar hulp te vragen in Araluen.
Will en zijn vrienden schieten hun oude vriend te hulp, maar komen er al snel achter dat de hete woestijnen en zandstormen van Arrida een nog geduchtere vijand vormen dan de gevaarlijke krijgers die Erak gevangen houden.

           Can I just say that throughout this series Cassandra is a badass but this, this is where I noticed it the most. Just strong female content yes. And Will really got to grow up here and see how things would be for him as a Ranger without Halt. I'm glad he added this book because it was just so good for Will's character growth. (And the Wedding!!!)

I cannot keep copies of the books in this series on the shelves in my middle school. I like that each story is unique and the characters must use creativity and resourcefulness to solve the problems they face in each book. Huge following with boys but the very strong female characters of Alyss and Evanlyn have had the girls picking them up as well. Great series for reluctant readers, both boys and girls.

This might be where John jumps the shark a bit, or at least where the shift we’ve been seeing in the past few books becomes very noticeable. I struggle to believe that the world in Erak’s Ransom has ever contained wargals. Ya know?

There is one adventure from Will?s time as a Ranger?s Apprentice that is yet to be told... The seventh book takes us back to the final year of Will's apprenticeship, before the events related in Ranger's Apprentice Books 5 and 6.
