Earlier this winter I went up to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum and got to chatting with a volunteer about trees. He suggested this book and so I promptly put a hold on it. It's a good read, in the vein of a Jon Krakauer tale. It tells the story of Grant Hadwin - a logger turned activist - who cuts down the golden spruce, a beautiful giant mutant of a tree. And in broader strokes writes about the logging industry, the Haida, and our natural resources that get plundered along the way.
