Açık konuşmak gerekirse kitaba başlarken daha büyük umutlarım vardı, belki de çok fazla övülmüş olmasından kaynaklanan bir durum. 

Kitabı okumayı bitirdiğimde aklımda hala bir çok soru vardı "Peki bunu neden yaptı ki?" benzeri. Kitabın sonunda gerçekleşen olayla da o soruların cevaplarını alamayacağım kesinleşmiş oldu. Yani bir şeyler bende tamamlanmadı. Sanki yazar gelişine bir sürü detay eklemiş, ama bir çoğunu neden eklediğini kendisi de bilmiyormuş gibi...

Bir de ilk olayın fazlasıyla uzun işlenmesi ve diğer olayların çok daha kısa anlatılması, kitabı ilk olaya sıkıştırmış ne yazık ki. Öyle ki düğümün çözüldüğü süreç bile giriş kadar uzun değildi.

Özet olarak; kitabın biraz fazla abartıldığını, sonun biraz aceleye getirilmiş gibi durmasından ötürü ağızda biraz yavan bir tad bıraktığını, ama yine de hoş blr kitap olduğunu söyleyebilirim.

This is a re-read for me as I read it when it was originally published - approximately 11 years ago. I never stopped thinking about this book and would say it is one of my fave suspense thrillers. It is the first in the Dave Gurney series. I am going to continue the series.

Think of a Number is so well-written as John Verdon is an extremely talented writer. I had remembered some of the clues, but not many, so it was a fun ride the second time around also.

Dave Gurney is a retired investigator and is pulled back into a strange investigation by a series of unusual events. It is a very exciting case and filled with many details and twists and turns.

I recommend this book.

Estupendo. Sabía que no me decepcionaría, en parte porque cuando se trata de crímenes, los prefiero de asesinos seriales así de ingeniosos, y en cuanto a Gurney, me ha gustado muchísimo en muchos aspectos. Es la clase de detective que sabes que se involucrará inevitablemente en el caso a pesar de todo, por la fuerza de su profesión y todo lo que ello conlleva.
Al principio el caso se me hizo interesantísimo, pero a medida que avanzaba se tornó un poco lento y perdiendo fuerza porque no sucedía mucho más que surgir más y más incógnitas y explicaban demasiado algunos detalles pequeños. No obstante, a medida que se fueron resolviendo enigmas y descubriendo pistas con las cuales deducir ciertas cosas, regresó el mismo interés del inicio. Fue como una montaña rusa, y el descenso fue espectacular.
El detenimiento en los personajes fue lo que me facilitó las sospechas sobre el asesino, pero el M.O. en sí fue un extraño caso absurdo y la historia una gran trama enrevesada que me sorprendió. El final fue como cuando al fin logras desenredar alguna cuerda fuertemente anudada y te has magullado las manos en el proceso, un alivio y un impacto al mismo tiempo.
La intriga no desapareció en ningún momento, y la manera poco convencional de relacionar los casos me ha parecido excelente.

Una novela muy bien hecha, y mis expectativas crecen con los siguientes libros.
