This was a great book that was different from the way traditional pop military history books are written. It wasn't about the generals successfully executing magnificent battleplans or generals making dumb mistakes. Instead, it was about the doctrinal and design decisions that led an up to then successful navy to lose a battle against a relatively equal foe (at the time anyway). By focusing on just one battle, the authors can go through small things like air search patterns, spotting and launching of aircraft, and the doctrinal structures that commanders are bounded by. Overall, I found this an excellent and informative book.
