It wasn't at all what I expected but at the same time it was sort of what I expected as well. It wasn't that predictable. It was milder than what I thought it would be. And the story has quite more depth than as expected. Basically, this is like How I Met Your Mother minus all the friends but it's a book and it deals with existential ideas. It encourages us to think about life and its mysteries and to look up once in a blue moon and marvel at how vast and intriguing space is. It's a great read. You should read it in one seating. That way it gets more build up.

The conversations don't seem natural to me. Perhaps it's because I'm not in the same continent as they are and not all languages have the same speaking patterns.

The story was actually simple but wow Gaarder made everything seems complicated and fairy-tale like, and I think that was beautiful.

But 'The Orange Girl' is no ordinary story - it is a riddle from the past and centres around an incident in his father's youth. One day he boarded a tram and was captivated by a beautiful girl standing in the aisle, clutching a huge paper bag of luscious-looking oranges. Suddenly the tram gave a jolt and he stumbled forward, sending the oranges flying in all directions. The girl simply hopped off the tram leaving Georg's father with arms full of oranges. Now, from beyond the grave, he is asking his son to help him finally solve the puzzle of her identity.
