While the writing in this book is beautiful, the pacing is a little off. The author spent too much time building the world and introducing our characters, which I understand because there are a lot of things that needed to be explained, but i'd rather she pace it out throughout the book than spending first half of the book explaining how the celestial world works. This, I feel, took the fun out of the reading experience. I remember thinking the entire time when is the fun part going to start because I'm getting bored. And when you finally hit the 50%(ish) mark, the author went full throttle and you get action scenes after action scenes at times. I do enjoy the magic system here because it's unique. This is where Judt I. Lin excels at, in my opinion. You can always guaranteed to read a fantasy book with a unique magic system. [spoilers removed]

enjoyed reading about the magical world of the celestial realms found in chinese mythology. pacing is more on the slower side but the world building allowed me to picture the beautiful fantasy world

the added musical and poetry element - makes the book more dreamy. also love the hint of mystery in the storyline

i recommend the audiobook for this one just for the pronunciation of the chinese names. anyways the premise of the book was good but at times, it was a little confusing and i didn't love the ending sighs

The world and magic lost me a little bit at times but lives the characters and how whimsical it all felt
