I have to say that I'm not totally impressed with this book (I'm not saying I hate it, it's just not that special for me :)), because I sort of have a high expectation on it. The main idea of the story is really interesting actually, the situation where she hurts herself just to take over her emotional pain. I think the story has to be somewhat really emotional and stuff, but I just don't grasp it through this story. (I don't know if it's just me not understanding well or what. xD) Well, anyways, it's just an okay book for me. :)


--- Willow is the name of a teenage girl. A teenage girl who just killed both her parents. When people said it that way, it might seem that Willow intentionally killed her parents. In fact, it's the other way around. The accident changed her every single thing in her life: her surroundings and herself. 

Since the accident, Willow can't seem to stop blaming herself. Even though people didn't really say it to her face, Willow have this sort of suggestion that people are talking about her behind her back; saying she's a murderer. Willow doesn't socialize and keeps everything to herself. But she's got a really special friend, which keeps her company whenever she wants to be saved from all the depressing emotions: razors.

Willow found a way to escape everything. To escape all the hurtful things in life. She cuts herself. That way, she can just focus on this physical wound, which is much more better than the emotional wound she had been experiencing. Willow found it really comforting to do this. No one knows what she's doing but herself. But one day, someone else found out: a boy named Guy. Willow had no choice to let Guy get into her life, or else Guy would tell her brother about her cutting. 

Guy becomes her friend then, besides the razors. Willow is able to talk about things a lot better because Guy knows her darkest secret. Guy tried to stop Willow from cutting herself. But still, Guy didn't experience himself the things that Willow is experiencing, so Willow thinks that Guy can't tell what to or not to do. 

This is a story of survival and also a story of both friendship and love. When something unbelievably bad happens to Willow's life, it is up to herself whether to survive or not. 


The plot of the story is moving pretty slowly (for me). There's not a lot going on in the beginning of the story. I'm not really a big fan of slow-paced story. With slow-paced, i'm not looking forward to what's going to happen next, i just want to know how it ends. :D

So, 3 stars for Willow. :)

This is a really sweet and truthful book. I think Guy and Willow's relationship is amazing, and the themes explored are definitely very relevant in today's society. A definite must, I think.

Holy crap. This book is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. The subject matter isn't very relate-able to me, but Willow's personality is. Her descriptions of when she loses control, when she is overcome with grief, it's like I felt her inside my head. She just...made this book so incredible to read. To see her changing throughout the novel was so great. Julia Hoban is an exceptional writer, no one can deny that after reading this book. She is so skilled with words, and describing emotions and feelings. She did her research, that's for sure. I don't know what else to say other than this book was absolutely phenomenal.
