Following the same timeline as The Lost Duke of Wyndham we see Thomas and Amelia’s story playing out side by side with Jack and Grace’s as we see how their lifelong betrothal has affected any semblance of a potential friendship they may have had. As Jack slowly infiltrates the household, we see Thomas start to turn more to Amelia as their feelings for one another slowly develop despite neither of them willingly wanting to admit it. (We also see how obvious Jack and Grace’s attraction is for another through everyone else’s eyes although they thought they were being discreet.) As we see Amelia start to stand up for herself and Thomas deal with his own life and identity crisis, it is clearer for readers why they acted the way they did throughout book one, as they are both struggling independently and together with their feelings and social / familial predicaments. With the book ending in their admission of feelings and a marriage on their own terms, I think it is safe to say that I adored this book. My only complaint is that, at least in my copy, when Jack is revealing his full name, in The Lost Duke of Wyndham, he introduces himself as ‘John Rollo Cavendish-Audley’ whereas in Mr Cavendish, I Presume, he introduces himself as ‘John Augustus Cavendish-Audley’ and I am not sure if it was a print error, edit error or author error but it is just something I could not get out of my head hence the -0.5 on my rating (petty I know). 

All in all I loved seeing more into Thomas and Amelia’s characters and storyline whilst also revisiting some of my favourite parts from the first book through a different lens and perspective. With loveable characters and the clear yet somewhat unwanted feelings storyline, I loved all of their scenes together and combined with seeing Jack interacting with them in his Jack-ish manner just made me feel so giddy inside. Also, scenes with a drunk / tipsy Thomas and a caring Amelia, I could already tell they would be a couple I loved, no matter how long it took them to admit it.
