Queen Charlotte

From No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn and television pioneer Shonda Rhimes comes a powerful and romantic novel of Bridgerton's Queen Charlotte and King George III's great love story and how it sparked a societal shift, inspired by the original series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, created by Shondaland for Netflix. 'We are one crown. His weight is mine, and mine is his . . .' In 1761, on a sunny day in September, a King and Queen met for the very first time. They were married within hours. Born a German Princess, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was beautiful, headstrong, and fiercely intelligent . . . not precisely the attributes the British Court had been seeking in a spouse for the young King George III. But her fire and independence were exactly what she needed, because George had secrets . . . secrets with the potential to shake the very foundations of the monarchy. Thrust into her new role as a royal, Charlotte must learn to navigate the intricate politics of the court . . . all the while guarding her heart, because she is falling in love with the King, even as he pushes her away. Above all she must learn to rule, and to understand that she has been given the power to remake society. She must fight - for herself, for her husband, and for all her new subjects who look to her for guidance and grace. For she will never be just Charlotte again. She must instead fulfil her destiny . . . as Queen.

This book. How can I describe it? It is a tragic love story that is so beautifully written. Bridgerton is one of my favourite tv shows so when I heard that a spin off was happening about Queen Charlotte I was so excited. It instantly became my favourite story in the Bridgerton Universe. Quinn has done a fantastic job translating the tv show scripts into this book. Her additions of scenes between George and Charlotte, and Reynolds and Brimsley added so much to the story. This book gave us a look at the thoughts and feelings of the characters as well as their backstories. Most of the chapters are word for word translations of the show and I loved thinking of the scene and the way the actors portrayed the characters in the show whilst reading. This book is emotional especially toward the end when we get a flashback with older George and Charlotte. This will forever be one of my favourite books.

“You did not go over the wall,” he said.

She smiled. “No, George. I did not go over the wall.”

I loved this book even more than the show. It was so good to read what the different characters are thinking and really get a feeling of each environment. The book includes some small scenes that I believe added a deeper understanding of the characters as well.

such a good read! for the most part it was like the tv show with some added scenes here and there. but it was cool to have an idea of what the characters were thinking in certain scenes.

At some point, her numbness had bled into despair. And at some point after that, the despair had given way to rage.

But the heavens were safe. The sun and the stars and the planets. Me- teors and moons. He could not hurt them. And they would never look down upon him with shame.

He’d thought she was pretty.

That was all he'd thought, really, when he saw her standing by the wall. But then she spoke.

And he was lost forever.

When Charlotte spoke, the world came alive. She was fierce and stubborn and shockingly forthright. Her intelligence transformed her pretty tace into something incandescent. Truly, he did not know a woman could be so beautiful.

She was a star. She was a comet. She was everything that sparkled in in the night sky, brought down to earth by magic the church swore did not exist.

Yesterday, her tears would have flowed.. Hot and angry, with all the passion of her youth. But now she was to be Queen. Whatever lay inside a person, creating tears, forming sobs it had been switched off. She did not cry.

Her mind Was righteous and she was scared. on fire. Her fury was and with every mile she was hurtling toward a future she did not understand. She knew what was happening, but she did not know why, and it made her feel stupid and small.
