This was a very different story from what I usually pick up as a predominantly fantasy reader, but I am so glad I read it. While I've never experienced earthquakes or tsunamis, I related heavily to many of Yuki's struggles. The story was slow at times but I think that was on purpose. They were moments meant to emphasize personal thoughts and follow Yuki's stream of consciousness. It has the same vibes as Studio Ghibli movies, which I love. 
I also adored the romance and how she struggled with her art and believing it wasn't good enough. That is a struggle I think all artists undergo and isn't talked about enough.
