(before reading) Okay, I'm going to be completely honest. At this point, I have read too many reviews of this book. I pretty much already know what's going to happen, and this isn't a good thing. I'm probably going to have to, in the future, be like, "Monica. No read book reviews on goodreads. bad for you, it is." (after reading) Review: Plot: 5/5 Well, who would’ve thought that after the Iron Fey problem got resolved another type of monster fey would crawl out of the woodworks and cause trouble? If you thought yes, then you would be a certified fortune-teller! Characters: 5/5 We have Ethan, whom we all remember from the first series. We have new characters, like Kenzie and Todd. And we have Kierran, who was mentioned in the Iron Knight. We also have Grimalkin, Leanansidhe, and we see Meghan, Ash and Puck! It’s tons of fun! Character development: 5/5 You can’t really have characters change a lot in one book that’s supposed to be the first in a series. But let’s talk about Ethan. In the first series, he was an adorable little four-year-old and he was kind of small and didn’t really have a stake in things other than being used as bait. Bait does not equal very developed character. Now he’s older (I don’t know what his actually age is currently. It’s over four and under 18, but that’s not real specific) He can still see the fey (that was supposed to fade. It does for most kids) and he’s in martial arts with a sword and iron jewelry and total jerkface-ish. Pushing people away so they don’t get hurt. Not to be rude, but that reason for being mean is just a tad overused at this point. By the end, he’s nicer. Points for Julie Kagawa! Romance: 4/5 I really don’t like it when the romance starts out for no other reason then they’re attracted to each other and then they go on an adventure together and fall in love. I like there to be a bit MORE of reason, but I am not complaining. I love Ethan and Kenzie. Other Comments: Julie Kagawa can do no wrong. She could try really, really hard to do wrong and NOT BE ABLE TO MANAGE IT. That is how much she can not do wrong. I get the feeling that we’re supposed to… Meghan, Ash, Puck, and all those other characters from the first series? Well, I get the feeling that JK wants us to start thinking that they’re… not bad guys, necessarily, but they’re not GOOD guys anymore. If that makes sense. Overall grade: 19/20 Also, before reading this book, I did not know that Ethan was considered a Prince. Now that I know that, the title makes SOOO much more sense. And I am going to have some comments on the title of the Traitor Son.

More of my reviews at Secrets of Lost Words You can also read this review here *A copy was provided by the publisher for reviewing purposes* Big thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin!!! Some of you might not know this, but I'm a frickin huge Iron Fey fan!! Woo!! So when I heard there is going to be a spin-off series of Ethan, I was like.. WTF. Then I was like, OMG OMG OMG.. ETHAN AND KEIRRAN!!! So, when I got this galley from Harlequin, I was basically dying of shock... I had really high expectations of this book and now, I'm still not sure if I liked the way it turned out or not. Ethan is now in high school and is ass-kicking bad boy. Seriously, I still think of him as the four year old little kid. So seeing that he's all grown up, I'm just like, "Whoa, wait what?" I still have mix feelings about Ethan. He's a jerk. I mean, I understand why he has to push people away and make himself as untouchable and unapproachable as possible, but that doesn't mean he can be a dick. Like, when he flipped off Kenzie, I was like, "APOLOGIZE, ETHAN." But, I can totally understand why he has to be the way he is. I think he's still scared.. there's still some of that four-year-old left in him. Hard and badass on the outside, but a scared little kid on the inside. My absolute favorite character in this book is Keirran!! I can totally see how he is the son of Meghan and Ash. Ah!! Keirran is another hot guy for me to swoon about. I can see that he likes Annwyl a lot :) And that is just so sweet :3 Ethan and Keirran just remind me of another pair *coughAshandPuckcough* The old gang is back in this series, but we don't see them that much. Like Puck, Ash, and Meghan only appeared once or twice. But I'm happy that we get to see a lot of Grimalkin. I missed that cat :) Now, onto the plot. I'm sorry to say this, but I'm sort of disappointed by the plot. I thought it was going to be kind of like the old series again, all action-packed and kick-ass scenes. But nope, this one is more.. calm and negotiating and touchy-feely sort of book. There wasn't a lot of action in this one. Old series: plot like a roller coaster. New series: calm waves in the ocean. The ending wasn't really surprising but I still have my hopes high for the next book :) Hopefully, we'll get more kick-ass moments and just plain kali :)

This book has content warnings for homophobia, use of the g-slur, death of a loved one and cancer (specifically leukemia). The Iron Fey series was alright but I didn't love it, so I was a bit scared going into this but it didn't dissapoint at all. In fact, I think this is better. Ethan is just a much more engaging main character than Megan, in my opinion. He's a bit too angsty for me but I also feel like his feelings are justified. It's especially refreshing to have a main character within YA fantasy that is a trained fighter and knows almost everything about the magical world already before the novel starts. I also really like the love interest in this book. She's very different from Ethan and they work in a very complimentary way and I'm excited to see their relationship grow over the future books. It's also just nice to see her reactions to things and the contrasts between her and Ethan. I'm also excited about the fact that this didn't have a love triangle, as I hated that in the original series. All the side characters are a lot of fun and I can't wait to spend more time with them. I also really enjoyed the cameo's the characters from The Iron Fey series made in this book. For the rest I had a great time with the plot. It still felt a lot like a set-up for the rest of the series, honestly that's why I docked a star. However, I am super excited to see where this is going to go and what this means for the world. I love the new kind of fae introduced in this series and I am 100% sure they will cause for interesting discussion within the next book. This book was a very quick read and never had a slow moment. In conclusion, I think this was a huge improvement on the original series and I'm super excited to see what's next for this trilogy.

I enjoyed this book but I never got into it at the level with which I adored the first series. Kagawa does a good job at avoiding feminization of the male protagonist. (I find that whenever authors have protagonists of the opposite gender, some do not manage as well as others.) She creates a fairly believable fantasy which spends a good amount of time in the "real world" and the "Between" rather than in Nevernever. A lot of the plot, however, felt predictable, especially the romance. Seriously? Yup. Predicted that from the moment she walked over to him after that first class. At the end, I give a half-hearted shoulder shrug to this book and pass on reading the remainder of the series.

I loooves this book! I really like Ethan and Kenzie and Keirran and Annallyn oh and Razor. Mpstly everyone. I was so excited to get back into the Nevernever and it was a really goog book! Can't wait for the next one. I missed Meghan and Ash soo much! it made me so nostalgic, I think I will re-read the Iron fey soon.

An amazing book. i love the whole series.

It was as always, well written, but I don't know, it lacked that "thing" that made the other books of the saga so dear to me. Amazing nonetheless but I really look forward reading the next book to see if that spark is still there

Ehm... ;)
