I loved this manga it was weird and wonderful, it wasn't the scariest I've read but it was really different and I enjoyed it overall. Tomie is a really excellent villain even I almost feel enchanted by her and I liked the series of different stories that somehow meld into one.

It's always a joy to re-read this as though I have yet to read everything when I distinctly recall every panel—every image that were burnt into my memory since I was a child growing up. I love everything about this, I was unable to scrutinise it in a way that would make me believe it was done haphazardly. It was woven with effort and hard work, and I truly appreciate that about Ito's works.

After discovering that she is pregnant with his child, Tomie's teacher, Mr. Takagi, kills Tomie and has the class help him divide her body and dispose of it in various locations, never expecting that she might come back.

Could be much much MUCH better. 

Here's my problem, I get it. Junji Ito is the new sensation and everything, he's awesome, his artwork is great (mostly) and his stories from what I've read so far are mostly good, with amazing ideas but the execution is what I have a problem with. 

See, there's a main theme in his stories and there are episodes of sorts of each chapter after chapter that something happens to someone you don't care in the slightest and it's pretty much insignificant to the main story most of the time but it happens so you can see some creepy dismemberment or something like that. 

There's no character development and that's just what hurts me the most. The characters' reactions and choices are mostly dumb as fuck without reason or logic and that also hurts my intelligence.

Other than that it's fun to read and you for sure want to see what happens next and at the end but it was a chore to read some of the stories and that takes it down a star, sadly. 

PS. No. It wasn't as good as Uzumaki.

Probably a 3.5? I just think theres better Junji, but I do really enjoy the idea behind this. I think it felt incomplete as though the direction of the story never really progressed past the initial idea of Tomies character. Even in the end when I thought all these characters stories would come together and reach a climax, it never did. I was actually shocked to flip the final page because of how unfinished it felt. Still enjoyed Junji's art style as always, just a bit disappointed 😞

Weird. My favorite stories were "Revenge" and "The Boy". The most interesting thing here was seeing Junji Ito develop as an artist. Other than that, it was fine. Not really good, but fine. 2.5 stars.

Just okay. Mediocre compared to Ito's other works. Because the monster is more or less the same each time, a lot of the stories have a samey feeling to them. Keep in mind, I think this might have been one of Ito's first works as a mangaka. It's amazing to me that nine movies have been spawned from this series.

           While a fun read, it's not my favorite Junji Ito book by a long shot. The first few stories were pretty captivating, but by the end I was tired of seeing Tomie being dismembered by her obsessed lovers. Her mutations were pretty interesting, but after having read so many of his other stories I guess I was expecting a little more gore and horror. As others have said, it just got a little repetitive by the end.

tomie is unfiltered horror that does so well on its own, your imagination doesn’t even need be pricked in order to unnerve you.

Unfortunately I was not vibing with this book. It became really repetitive with a disappointing ending. I really wished this had more body horror in it. The beginning of the story was probably my favourite and I would have loved to get to know how Tomie became Tomie besides her first death and why it was happening. Towards the end I felt like it was gearing up for Tomie to finally die for good however it was never explored

Honestly, I really enjoyed the reading experience. The story is original and gruesomely amazing. The thing is, for me, that it's not something I'm gonna remember as a favorite. The illustrations were horrifyingly pretty, probably my favorite thing about the book. The story on the other hand... It didnt feel like a story, more like really short storys. It didn't interest me to see what happend next. 

So I would recommend it if you're looking for a easy horror manga, for wich you don't have to pay attantion to every step of the way.
